The Russian Army (Russian: Сухопутные войска Российской Федерации, English: Ground Forces of the Russian Federation) was established on May 7, 1992. It is the largest service in the Russian army. Its predecessor was the Soviet Army in Russia after the disintegration. The main mission is to annihilate enemy combat groups, seize territory occupied by the enemy, a certain area or line of defense, strike deep with firepower at the enemy's defenses, and repel the enemy's in-depth attacks and large-scale airdrops.
