Amtrak P42DC Maple Leaf (Autoreverse)

America's Railroad


The General Electric Genesis series P42DC locomotive has been the backbone of Amtrak's long-distance fleet for the last 20 years, with 207 locomotives being produced for the railroad. Although being phased out by the newer Siemens Charger series, the P42s remain a favourite among engineers to this day for their smooth ride and reliability on all routes and conditions throughout the US. This particular route connects the two busiest rail stations Amtrak services, travelling the 12.5-hour route between New York Penn and Toronto Union, passing through Albany and Niagara Falls along the way.

This trainset features auto-reversing locomotives for easy use, meaning there will always be a locomotive facing the direction of travel.

This train has a fairly extensive set of custom effects, that all mirror the real thing as closely as possible. To take full advantage of them, you'll need the following mods:

Vehicle Effects and Extra Vehicle Effects required for audio and particle effects.

Custom Effect Loader required for light effects.

Due to the level of detail I wanted in my builds, the P42DC model is quite tri-heavy. If you don't mind missing out on the Amtrak branding, I recommend using Bsquiklehausen's Citylink-liveried P42s for less detailed builds or lower-end systems.

Q: Do I need Vehicle Effects, Extra Vehicle Effects, or Custom Effect Loader to use this train?
A: While heavily recommended, they're only needed for the custom effects. The train should still work without them.
