The Maw

Description
A dying leviathan found by Coalition doctors on a confidential mission in deep water. Without anesthetic, they dissected it alive on the abyss floor, and crudely carved it into a living research station. This is no vessel for the good of mankind. This is a lobotomized playground for genetic abominations and disgusting attempts to play God. The only true monsters that lurk these waters are the treacherous, sociopathic men of this crew. The Coalition denies its existence, despite Jovian witnesses.

Why choose this ship?

1. I wanted to build a submarine with harvesting genetics as the primary focus. With a Medical Doctor that possesses the Gene Harvester talent and a Captain that pilots well, your crew will begin to accumulate unidentified genetic material at a very fast rate. The very concept of genetic tampering is one of questionable ethics and I wanted to lean into that theme. This ship is designed to "eat" smaller Jovian lifeforms for that reason. While the mouth can fit anything hammerhead or smaller, it is really only usable against anything that can be stunned, i.e. crawlers, mudraptors, spinelings, and humans.

2. Designed with Treacherous Tides and Traitor Mode in mind. It is a purposefully dark and oppressive atmosphere full of hiding places. This is not a ship built for a tight-knit team. This ship is for the distrusting. There are many potential pitfalls and hiding places for underhanded foul play. Unlike most other subs, this one places the Security Officer role at the bottom of priority. There is only one dedicated safe in the captain's quarters. There is no brig. If you are looking for a min/maxed sub that serves as a mobile fortress and security bastion, you will not find that here.

3. I designed this "inefficiently" in order to keep the crew mechanics and engineers engaged. They will need to monitor the output, keep an eye on the battery backups, they will have to roam the ship to maintain the junctions. By my head canon, that is because a crew of scientists built it, not engineers. I have many hours of experience playing this game, and I do not enjoy overpowered submarines. The fun is in the struggle. Having an inefficient sub with constant crew movement allows for traitors to access places they shouldn't...as well as allows for moments where they get caught.

Specifications:
- The mouth is controlled both by periscope and navigation terminal. It opens the door to the gullet and activates alternating electric coil dischargers.
- The gullet has two more EDCs to keep fauna subdued and an internal coilgun for finishing stubborn survivors.
- A waiting doctor in the stomach can open it up via button in the stomach, collect everything from the available corpses, and then hit the lever to flush the pile down into the Abyss. The stomach airlock is conveniently across from the laboratory to expedite storage and refinement of genetic material and alien blood.
- Top and bottom docking hatches to support the movable/sellable wrecks mod.
- Battery bank to ease power demand fluctuations.
- Dark lighting and loose panels for hiding in many locations.
- Limited dive suit storage.
- A 3-lever "stomach flush" system which opens the middle portion of the ballast to the open water. Handy for disposing of lifeforms, whether living or dead.
- The captain's quarters are carved out of the Maw's hollowed eye sockets. Should he pilot poorly when attempting to swallow prey, he will find his view port becomes an easy point of entry for fauna.

I never thought I would not only see someone rip off my subs entire design, but almost word for word my definition of why I made the sub in the first place. What even is this?

does the ship work well with an ai only crew?

Because no one used it until April. I'll update it by next week.

*Edit* I updated it to hopefully fix the walls, but I cant test it. Let me know.

why do you not update this for 5 months?

@Yiti, @Rosco, thank you so much! I really wasn't sure people would like it, so you make it worth the work! Like I mentioned in another comment, if you have a good crew, I'm looking to create and post some gifs of the features on the sub, so hit me up if you would like to help me refine this sub!

@Onivista, yes it is not only practical, it is super fun if you have a good crew. Crews that like genetics can make good progress very quickly with a leveled doctor. That said....it's a nightmare to play with randoms and I've struggled to get good footage of what it can do because strangers do not cooperate, and it gets instantly griefed by jerks.

Graycat playtested it with a crew for me, so I'll update it here as soon as I get a quiet moment to fix the concerns about lighting, unrepairable walls or enemies caught on the teeth.
