Ghirahim

Description
The fanciful and fabulous Ghirahim has arrived to smack some wretched brats! Is this his true strength, or is he holding back?

NEUTRAL SPECIAL: DANCE OF THE DIAMOND BLADES
Ghirahim summons four diamond blades to do his bidding. Diamond blades will stay on the field until commanded or touched by an opponent. They can be used for both offensive and defensive purposes.

They will move into different formations depending on the direction held when summoning:
Hold Right or Left to make them form a wall on that side, the ideal protective position.
Hold Down to split them up equally on both sides, the ideal versatile position.
Otherwise they will form a straight line, the ideal knockback position.

Pressing neutral special again after diamond blades are on the field will command them to fly forwards. They deal greater knockback while moving like this compared to when they are stationary.

Additionally, pressing special at any point during a grab will command the diamond blades to fly forward.

SIDE SPECIAL: BLOODLUST OF THE FURIOUS
Ghirahim holds a wind up stance where he is granted armour for around four seconds. Releasing the special button will cause him to charge forward. He will strike the first opponent he comes in contact with, or the attack button can be pressed to strike early. If Ghirahim starts in the air, moves off stage or turns at the ledge, he will immediately strike.

UP SPECIAL: LAUGH OF THE OUTRAGED
Ghirahim immediately vanishes and reappears based on the inputted direction.

Ghirahim will appear with a different action depending on what button is pressed.
No Input will let Ghirahim appear with the least endlag.
Pressing Attack will make Ghirahim perform a sword swipe once he appears.
Pressing Special will cause Ghirahim to plunge down with his sword, impaling opponents caught on the way down. Once landing impaled opponents are sent flying and Ghirahim struggles to pull his sword out of the ground.

DOWN SPECIAL: PRELUDE OF THE ENDLESS PLUNGE
Ghirahim lights his hands with a dark electrical energy and prepares to counter an opponents attack. This counter will only activate if the front half of Ghirahim is hit, otherwise his guard will be broken and he will be stunned.
Differing to regular counters in a few ways, Prelude of The Endless Plunge can be held for as long as desired, and rather than deal significant damage Ghirahim will instead send the aggressor a long distance behind him. Ideal at ledges or recovering offstage.

SPECIAL MECHANICS
Ghirahim has a very long taunt! Inputting a direction or pressing shield will cancel the taunt after the half way point.
All of Ghirahims strong attacks have teleporting effects if B is pressed early on.

PLAYSTYLE
Ghirahim has excellent mid range options, and you should try to maintain this distance. Use your disjointed hitboxes to safely hit opponents without putting your light self at risk.
Ghirahim has a fairly slow ground speed and only decent air speed, but his attacks may be faster than you expect. Use your tilts and aerials to pressure opponents, and punish with your slower strong attacks.
Ghirahim has a pretty strong air game. His aerials give him plenty of options for all situations, and many of his attacks are good at launching opponents up high.
Diamond Blades are a very unique element that will change how you can fight. Make use of them and control the stage!

ORIGIN

I look forward to that neutral special change, it sounds quite useful, and even more defensive than I expected if they can act as a travelling shield of sorts. Firing them at our leisure is also great to add pressure and make it difficult for an opponent to judge whether or not you throw them or travel with them. I'll have to see and test it out when its ready, though, just to completely comprehend this new mechanic you have in mind!

I don't know how balanced it'd be to be able to also surround someone with their own circle of daggers, to be fair, I don't want him to be unbalanced either! Maybe that version of the attack won't have any stagger element to it or something. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't want that cool Skyward Sword-loyal technique. Maybe like Link, the opponent can knock them away in time before they close in.

Counter might be a bit complex for what I suggested, moving with it and all, haha.

Neutral Special will be circling him, you will be able to summon them and play as normal, firing them off whenever you want. I've also designed them in such a way they they're all individual projectiles that can take hits individually, so there's still potential for them to be used defensively, although that will probably depend a lot on what you current animation is as your hurtbox could be potentially be in front of them in some. Placing them around opponents is something I would like to do too, but I haven't found a reliable method for that yet. But maybe!

Hmm, not sure about moving with the counter. Potentially we'll have to see, I'm already thinking of some reworks to it to make it feel more fair, fun and reliable. I'll just see how it goes can't promise anything.

Also not sure if you'd considered this idea or if it's possible, but having him able to walk forward while holding down his down special counter/prelude of the endless plunge, would be really cool and intimidating, the way he does it in Skyward Sword when fighting Link. Just an idea though!

That has me very excited to hear, so you've learned some new approaches in smack studio editor and will improve Ghirahim's more stiff aspects?? Awesome, I'm especially hype about the reworked neutral special, it's already so fun so to hear that it'll be updated to something more in line with Skyward Sword interests me quite a lot. Do you mean you can have the daggers circle around someone and/or make them homing projectiles, or something??

And yes, my only complaint was definitely how he feels a bit stiff in the air in terms of his sprite and how some aerials look a bit awkward for sure. When using him on the ground his animations look real nice though! His dash attack is a bit funny though!

Hi I'm glad you enjoy him! FYI I am planning on giving him a bit of a rework eventually, he will be mostly the same but he will feel much faster and less clunky and a few of the moves that aren't game accurate will be swapped out, as I feel he's a little stiff and unnatural at the moment. One big thing I will be changing is the neutral special, as I made that a long time ago when I was still learning smack and I couldn't implement it entirely faithful to the game with my limited knowledge, but I can now make it work much more like the game with my many months of experience. Just so you're aware.

After using him a lot more by now, I think I've gotten him down pretty well! Prelude of the endless plunge is great against other faster/aggressive fighters to give Ghirahim breathing room to use his diamond blades. I love his utility. He feels stronger on the ground to me, his down and up smash ranges are good spacing tools and together with his blades adds pressure to approaching him, and his fast teleport just makes it funnier to escape or offer a surprise attack.

This is a treasure for me, I've always wanted to play as Ghirahim in a smash-like, and always hoped someone would mod him in Rivals of Aether, but nobody did! But in this new promising similar game, you have, and I'm so overjoyed! Thank you!

Some feedback: I love his moveset especially the teleport and optional plunge follow up. He feels and looks a bit stiff in his aerials/jumps but I'm new to this game so I'm not sure if it's how the game is or if it can be improved on, maybe when the game launches and such the aerial movement in general will improve? But my goodness, did you get his vibe down, and I love the sounds and victory animation! I hope you continue to update him if need be, I have this fear mods might not work after the game's official launch but not sure how that works honestly.

From another fellow Ghirahim-obsessed person, I thank you for this contribution!
