Description
Ever wanted Barotrauma to feel like a Tarantino film?

This is a personal mod I created that is inspired by the "TTK" mods. Most of them were out of date or had a huge amount of features I wasn't interested in, so I created a barebones version with the damage modifiers and nothing else. This mod also changes the health of outpost NPCs so they will for the most part have normal health, making it viable to raid outposts. (It's not very economically rewarding but I enjoy the faction roleplay.)

I altered it to my own preference which I'll break down as follows:

Base vitality has been increased. This might sound counterintuitive but it will help add some degree of effectiveness between large and small calibre weapons as to maintain some degree of RPG character development.

Headshots are far deadlier now and most larger calibre weapons will instantly kill both you and enemies, but thanks to the vitality buff you still gain some degree of protection from armour.

Centre of mass (torso) shots are also pretty nasty. They will usually cause severe injuries, shock and unconsciousness. Revolvers, rifles and shotguns will take down most unarmoued targets with one shot, security officers can withstand a bit more but they don't feel like bullet sponges anymore and principally speaking I try to balance it so you will be able to take them out with a single magazine's worth of rounds. (Give or take certain ammo types.)

Extremities do almost no vitality damage at all, just like in real life. Since the big danger with extremities is not immediate tissue damage (although that is obviously still bad for other reasons), what causes the fatal injuries and organ failure is the bleeding. Works the same here. Leg and arm shots are useful for dealing with armoured opponents, but you'll need to play a bit of cat and mouse with them after they spring a few leaks.

This mod has been tested for the most part, but it's a work in progress. Files affected is Outpost NPCs presets and the Human.xml file(s). Seems to play well with other mods that have similar overrides (based on my own testing) but this is my first mod and I'm still learning.

That being said, I am known as Thumblesteen on The Nexus and I have modded A LOT of other games in the past. So I'm kind of like an expert novice, to use a bit of wordplay.

I would describe the gameplay as 70% realism and 30% Hollywood since in real life it's generally the guy who's outnumbered 10 to 1 who gets immediately shredded. Obviously I still want to keep the gameplay elements of the game intact. A "realistic" game where you get into gunfights every 3 days is a game that would probably end after 12 days or so given how combat fatigue is a thing.

Future plans might include putting some more interesting loot in outposts so that you'll get to leave with some supplies and precious ammo for more underwater terrorist hijinx.

PS: Again, first time uploading a mod. So if I forgot some step of the process or some file is missing then please let me know. I'm just following the steps as presented from what is quite frankly somewhat sparse documentation.

OH and I almost forgot:
Since I'm overriding the data anyways I decided to add some improvements to blood effects and damage sounds etc. Small steps but I want to make combat feel more effectful and cinematic.

Current Issues:
So far it runs great, only slight issue is with stairs. You will sometimes fall down stairs, it will take some trial and error to make it just right. That being said, I promised violence and those stairs are pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ violent. (Reverted because of how it got ridiculous. You can try it out for yourself by getting the older version in the changelogs. It's pretty funny, but undermines serious playthroughs.)
