INITIAL WARNING
I'm not the creator of this mod. If you have any problem, go It's own github page[github.com] and leave a comment there, like that the author of the mod can fix or even provide you a solution of your problems. I created this guide because It is good to see that someone took his time to create something and, at least, eliminates that awful bilinear filter and improve in some way the game.
METAL GEAR SOLID MASTER COLLECTION
MGSM2FIX
MGSM2FIX tries to give you the chance to improve METAL GEAR SOLID, but since It's an emulated version for now everything is limited.

Features
  • Custom resolution options added, including borderless. These control the window/fullscreen resolution, not the PSX internal render resolution.
  • Scanlines, Dot Matrix Filter and disable bilinear filtering.
  • Tracing feature added for Squirrel and native function calls. Higher tracing level means more recursion into arguments.
  • Adds an option to enable analog input. This requires Steam controller layout changes to work. Some experimental configurations are available on Steam under community layouts and are working well.

How to download
  • Download the latest release of MGSM2Fix[github.com]
INSTALLATION + CONFIGURATION
Open Steam and inside your Library go to METAL GEAR SOLID MASTER COLLECTION VERSION and then select Manage/Browse Local Files.

VIDEO TUTORIAL

Thanks to Jo-Cyanide for this guide for those who doesn't know how to do it. This is a great video to follow step y step.

MGSM2FIX vs DUCKSTATION
I know there is still a long way to go for modders as it is an internal emulator created by M2, but here is a comparison between the MASTER COLLECTION and the DUCKSTATION emulator.

I hope someday they can, at least, reach the same level of perfection as the emulator, but one step at a time since It's something hard to implement to this version.

SPECIAL THANKS & ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Special thanks to nugglset and everyone behind this awesome mod that opens everything up to a future where we can have a decent emulated version of this game.

"Perfection" in an emulation is not about having more resolution and smoothing than the game on the original platform. The goal of a perfect emulation is to obtain the same result that you would have obtained on the platform that is intended to be emulated. On the other hand, it is not "restoring" the image when filters are used to add scanlines. Scanlines were not a virtue but a defect. It was never the intention of the television manufacturers that you would see the scanlines, that was an inevitable accident. Except for games that specifically exploit the operation of a CRT screen to achieve a certain effect, in any other case it is understood that the ideal image should be the one achieved by a modern LCD screen.

As of today, the Steam Input issue was fixed.

This wasn't a Konami issue, this was an issue of Steam's infant developer tools for its fledgling Steam Input system.
