Features

The Darklings

A vicious race of conquerors and subjugators, the Darklings are a scourge upon the world and an enemy of all civilized peoples. Led by their great Padishah, the Darkling hosts will not cease their inexorable march until the last beacon of light is extinguished.

Strengths

  • Darklings are not entirely corporeal, and seem to weave in and out of the shadows with ease. They are innately capable at dodging, training the skill twice as quickly as the average dwarf - an advantage reflected in the skills of their warriors.
  • Darklings come in a variety of forms, ranging from standard humanoids to lumbering horrors.
  • Darklings have no interest in animal husbandry, instead raising constructs of stone to assist them in battle.
  • Darklings are resistant or immune to many of the depredations of the cursed climate which they inhabit, including a mutual disregard for the undead.
  • Darklings are capable metalsmiths, and will utilize steel arms and armor.

    Weaknesses

  • The more unique Darkling variants are unable to equip arms and armor, leaving them reliant on their innate durability to survive.
  • Darklings lack access to the war animals and mounts of other civilizations.

There are multiple different castes of Darklings, each with a unique role in a siege.

Standard Darklings are little different from the average Goblin, albeit a bit dodgier. They form the bulk of the Darkling warhosts.

Darkling Immortals are the shock troops of the Darkling armies, chosen from birth to be trained as warriors. Bigger, stronger, and faster than their lesser counterparts, they will prove a challenge to unprepared defenders despite their lesser numbers.

Darkskulls are the sorcerous lieutenants of the Darklings. Being little more than a winged skull, they may appear unthreatening compared to their larger brethren, but make no mistake - they are critical foes and should be dispatched as soon as possible. They are capable of launching chunks of sorcerous stone at foes or shrouding allies in a protective mantle of shadow.

Gloomfiends are the greatest threat among the Darkling legions. Once Darklings themselves, Gloomfiends have been twisted into terrifying creatures through magical experimentation. They occur in a number of variable forms, but all of them share a few commonalities: Gloomfiends possess only a fraction of their former intellect, but compensate for this with terrible efficacy in combat coupled with an immunity to pain and fear.

    The Darkstone Constructs

The Darklings' servants of choice are animate stone constructs, taking a variety of forms.

Darkstone Golems are lumbering humanoid golems, capable of tearing down buildings. Lesser weapons will find little success against their stone bodies. Lone individuals will occasionally prowl the caverns.

Darkstone Crawlers are monolithic spider-like constructs, capable of climbing over or tearing down most defenses. Lone individuals will occasionally prowl the caverns.

Darkstone Serpents are snake-like constructs with a head that doubles as a heavy stone bludgeon. Lone individuals will occasionally prowl the caverns.

Darkstone Discs are levitating disc-like constructs with a bladed edge. Despite being the smallest of the constructs, they will do terrible harm to unarmored flesh.

Would love a playable form if that's at all possible on your end.
