The Great Bear Island Trans-Island Railway Line

Description
The most powerful and indeed largest diesel locomotive on the Trans-Island Line, this H4-265E (road number 17) served as the railway's primary mainline power between the late 1970s and 2013. The locomotive's larger cab made it a crew favorite as it was quite warm and comfortable even in Great Bear's harsh winters, and the diesel had sufficient power to haul even the largest ore shipments from the Langston Mine all the way to Port MacKinley with ease. Due to its importance and favored status, it was maintained very well.

After the Collapse and the seismic activity that followed later in 2012, locomotive 17 began to have significant difficulties operating on the railway's now-disrupted track. Due to the increased risk of derailment as a result of the line's damage, the H4 was restricted to speeds no greater than fifteen miles per hour over much of the track, running even slower over more unstable sections. In early 2013, however, mainlanders began to ramp up their efforts to remove any valuable resources and equipment from the island in "payment" for the supplies needed by those who had remained on the island after the Collapse. Locomotive 17 (along with several other pieces of railroad equipment in similarly good condition) was unceremoniously craned right off the rails on the Port MacKinley pier onto a cargo ship to be pressed into service on a rail line on the mainland. Its current whereabouts are not known, though it is certainly no longer operational after the First Flare.

Recommended to operate on Rinston's Great Bear Island Railway layout.
