Update 4/20/2024 - Added new unlisted version of the Helios-MSC2 for Reforged Eden 2. Workshop link above.

Quick update 12/11/2023 - Fixed missing gravity in front few blocks in cab area by moving front gravity generator forward a few blocks. I rearranged 02 tanks in area keeping the same part count as before. I tested gravity in mid ship as well to make sure there are no gaps. No other changes were made.

Quick update 12/10/2023 - Fixed some missing textures in module bay 4. No other changes were made.

The Helios-MSC2-RE is brand new ship based on the Helios-MSC (Module Space Carrier). I felt it was about time to make a new version of the ship to accommodate all the new parts and features in the game as well as re-think the layout and try to make optimizations.

Helios-MSC vs Helios-MSC2

The Helios-MSC2 is lighter weight version of the original as well as less expensive. A main design choice was to make the new version in carbon substrate vs hardened steel. This allows for more stock thrust power. Another choice was made to change the layout as well as add 2 additional standard Helios module bays vs the original. The drop ship bay is now on the front of the ship directly attached to the hangar vs the rear of the ship. This allows for loading without needing to move creations to the rear of the ship. Beyond material and layout changes, the MSC2 was built to accommodate many new parts such as RE shield parts, more potential on board storage and production, more thrust upgrade options, and even a fusion reactor + additional advanced generator options.

Stock Features

The MSC2 comes with 6 standard Helios module bays + 1 Helios drop ship bay, 2 med bays, 60 light year warp drive, advanced shield, long range radar, 7 point wi-fi, 4x320K storage, 120K ammo storage, drone defense (16 minigun turrets), crew area, core room, 2 engineering bays, Part Info LCD (Located in bridge with P menu option on). The ship also comes with 48 total solar panels (24 small, 24 large), Teleporter, 2 advanced generators, fridges, armor locker and repair, o2 and dispensers, and passenger seats.

Upgrade options

You can add up to 16 additional thrusters, a fusion reactor, 8 small, 8 medium, and 3 large shield parts, 2 fill in 640K storage controllers, repair bay and console, 4 additional advanced generators, 1 1x3 generator, offline protection, 2 additional constructors/deconstructors, aux and quantum cores, and 4 small constructors. See P menu option "Upgrade info" and view more detailed part upgrade information in the bridge.

Offense and defense

The hull and interior are built with carbon substrate. It has 16 minigun turrets and an advanced shield (many additional shield parts can be placed), 120K ammo storage. The ship is not built for combat but does have perimeter drone defense.

Features Summary:

1. CV Class 16, RE core 9, unlock level 25
2. 6 Standard Helios module bays, 1 Helios drop ship bay
3. 4x 320 Storage, 120K ammo storage
5. 2 Advanced constructors, 2 med bays
6. 7 point WiFi, O2 and dispensers, Armor locker and Armor repair
7. Teleporter, long range radar, 60 light year warp drive
8. Advanced shield with many upgrade options
9. Hangar, massive flight deck
10. Many upgrade options including thrusters, generators, shield parts, storage, production, repair bay
11. Upgrade info LCD (P menu option) viewed in main bridge.

I hope you enjoy!

Notes:

If you are familiar with the original Helios-MSC, then you may feel right at home. The modules work the same as before and the MSC2 works with all existing Helios type modules. The main goal on this new version was to both optimize it as well as offer more upgrade potential and locations for new parts (RE). The original had a tougher hull however this version has far more shield potential plus better thrust performance with more upgrade options.

Also to note, The Plutus-M2 mining module can only be docked to module bays 2,3,5, and 6 due to it's setup. Module bay 1 is meant for a production module being close to bridge and on board production area, but can park most all modules expect the Plutus-M2.

If you want to know more about the base function and module system of this ship, the original Helios-MSC post explains this much better than this post. You can view it here:
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2390598756

One last thing, here is a link to the Helios module collection.
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/workshop/filedetails/?id=2391935700

You will find many modules to use with this ship made by several different authors. The ones I directly made are the Helios-P-Module, Janus-ASV, Apollo Drop ship module, and the Plutus-M2. However there are many other types of modules including storage, production, farming, combat, etc.

@jrandall

Was just curious why you "unlisted" the RE2 version.

I didn't even know it existed until I stumbled across the link contained in the description here.

Never mind, your friends list is full. BTW, when the CPU room got hit, the only thing not destroyed were the CPUs! They were just floating in space with a few health points left! Talk about lucky...

You won't believe this but I JUST got into the situation I had mentioned! My shield went down and the CPU room got hit. I plan to see if I can find a way to replace the Container Extensions elsewhere but I don't know the ship as well as you do. If there is any way you can help me with this, please let me know. You should know that I also removed the two aft Container Controllers and connected them to the two fore ones so they would be 640k. Unfortunately, I used the floor of the CPU room to connect the port extensions, so I'll also need to find a way to connect them elsewhere. I'll send you a friend request in case you have any tips, would be willing to jump in a game with me or want to trade BPs to get this figured out.

I love most of the changes you have made to the Helios. This is a fantastic upgrade to the original. Though I do have a couple of notes, if you're interested.
First off, going full Carbon was a great choice but there is one area I think you should armor up. That would be the Core room. If the worst happens, you at least don't want to lose your Aux/Quants. Second, I would add a way to quickly access the Bridge from outside the ship. So if you are traveling around with the carrier, you can enter and exit more easily. It would also be quite helpful to have auxiliary Cockpits around the ship even if they can only be used in third person view. They would allow you to quickly move the ship if you ever need to.

@Xerkus Enemy fire passes through docked ships. As far as I know, they cannot be hit by enemy fire while docked.

I wonder, is there any point in upgrading the shield? Considering how much is outside the carrier.

Can enemy fire damage/destroy docked? I remember splash damage was the bane of docked stuff.

It is not a small docking area. Whole area is a dropship sized bay. In original Helios it was on the back of the ship.

This is dropship sized module: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2416680251

What docks in the small docking area to the port side of the bridge? It also has the Docking Holo on the bottom.

@ScythHO2 I was having trouble finding those myself. If your in engineering standing where the large shutter doors are that allow you to add the down thrusters looking towards the front of the ship on that wall up high and you'll see 2 smaller shutter doors on either side of a red-orange light.

What module fits into the rear? The docking led's show that it lines up to the bottom left of the dock, and its a larger dock then the others. So I'm unsure which one fits there.
