The Great Bear Island Trans-Island Railway Line

Description
One of the oldest locomotives on the Trans-Island Line, this two-truck Shay began service running the full length of the railroad in the 1930s. As the railroad expanded throughout the mid-20th century, the Shay gradually became confined to the logging branch line running from Port MacKinley along the coast, because larger and heavier locomotives had difficulty navigating the twisting logging tracks and narrow bridges. Taken out of mainline service in the early 1970s as the railroad moved to diesel power, the Shay continued operating at the outer logging camps as a switcher for several years. It was eventually removed from the rails and placed on blocks as a stationary steam engine at the lumber yard, powering equipment off of its driveshaft. The locomotive was abandoned along with much of the rest of the yard's equipment when the logging camp shut down as a result of the Collapse. It likely remains at the abandoned camp to this day.

Recommended to operate on Rinston's Great Bear Island Railway layout.
