When he came to power back in 1961, Matiu Tonono was a former TDF (Tanoan Defense Forces) officer and hardline anti-communist, which earned him quick support from Washington. Over the almost three decades since then, he has been a close ally to the US and allowed the Horizon Islands to be stepping stones into Southeast Asia and the Pacific Rim.
Over the last few years, however, he has moved away from Washington and more towards Moscow—even forcing all US troops to leave the country in 1984—while also becoming more and more erratic, probably due to a mixture of drugs, alcohol, and his spirituality.

Last autumn, the opposition leader (Akamu "Neho" Serevi, a Christian-conservative lawyer) won the election by a landslide. Tonono, however, declared the election fraudulent, declared martial law, and began to purge everyone who opposed him. Dozens of thousands landed in prison or in mass graves. This also led to his Army and Navy feeling empowered to harass Western cargo ships or oil platforms just outside of Tanoan waters.





Story
Not only eroding civil liberties in his own country but also the geopolitical security of the region, US president Reagan gave his green light for Operation Pacific Thunder (OPT) - a full scale invasion of the small island nation. The main goal of the operation is to remove Tonono from power and replacing him with the current president-elect.

In this short campaign (3 missions) you will be able to follow US Delta Force and US Army soldiers on their missions on Tanoa.
