Description
New Medium is a mod designed to completely overhaul the game on an almost fundamental level; altering the game's balance by completely redoing the guns from scratch, tweaking the enemies, and redesigning the bosses, as well as sliding in some quality of life improvements here and there -- all to create a more engaging (and, ultimately, more fun) experience.

To this end, nearly every aspect of the game has been changed in some capacity...


Redone weapons: As stated, the guns have been completely redone. On the surface, they may look the same, but under the hood, the entire arsenal was redone from the ground up, resulting in slight changes such as the USP having slight bullet spread, to more drastic ones such as the MP5 losing accuracy from sustained fire and the Garand's improved scope. Not to mention, lots of things can be swap-cancelled, allowing for more flexibility and creativity in painting rooms red. Oh, and the knife is usable across all difficulties now, too, if you care about that sort of thing.

Dynamic Duo: One of the main goals of the mod was to 'unify' Ikuro and the Girl. The weapons behave roughly the same between them, with the key differences being how the two characters handle them; mainly in reload speed and bullet spread -- Ikuro operates his guns more stably at the cost of reloading slower, while the Girl handles them much faster but suffers from less accuracy. The Girl still runs faster and jumps higher though, don't worry.

Improved enemies: The vicious gangs of NIGHTFALL-04 have received a fair few improvements as well, ranging from improved voice mixing done by DOORDemon, additional sound effects when preparing to fire (as well as restoring their warning lines, with a 50% chance), and a dash of extra aggressiveness for good measure. Even the bosses have been reworked with phases and extra attacks -- and you can finally shoot the Maid Boss!

Quality of Life: Aside from the gameplay, there have been smaller changes all across the board. Gun-toting enemies drop ammo for their respective weapon, minor tweaks to the gore system have made it so enemies don't disintegrate at a mere gust of wind, enemy attacks leave bullet holes in walls just as yours do, and so on.


This was roughly a month-and-a-half in the making, so I sincerely hope you enjoy my little attempt at stumbling my way through ZScript.

This feels like the way the game was meant to be played. Thank you lots! I've been so invested that I've replayed the game too many times to count!

When I played through the base game I felt like I went through a short funny experience. After installing your overhaul this feels like a pretty cool, satisfying and competent little game that takes just around an hour to beat and I cant keep myself from coming back to improve on the levels and just keep enjoying the satisfying gameplay and sounds from the guns and enemies.

The only thing I would like from this mod was to be able to parry instantly regardless of you being firing or undergoing a reload animation. Often enemies are firing at me and I would like to use the parry defenssively just to push proyectiles back, but doing so requires me to stop firing at then, so usually its better to just dodge.

We never expected *that* sort of praise from a mod like this. Thank you!

Sound design has always been a focus in our mods, and is one of the more fun parts of making stuff like this, so we're glad it's appreciated!

The extra voice lines were in the original game at launch, but were cut for being repetitive, I think? When I restored them, I tried to strike a balance by making them only play sometimes so they wouldn't get too annoying.

I actually didn't touch the movement at all! But maybe changing the weapon bob animation makes movement feel different? I was actually worried that I'd accidentally create more motion sickness, so it's a relief that we did the opposite. I'll keep that in mind for potential future projects...

I don't think I could handle my name being on an altar, so I'm fine with just being in the credits!

I absolutely love how this totally overhauls the game, I love how you can now attack with the knife, and..just.. Agh! So many things to appreciate!
I love new sound designs! - I love how powerful the weapons sound now, And the extra voice lines! They're so nice! The game no longer feels repetitive..

I don't know if this is just placebo-effect, but the movement feels less..bouncy? I don't get nauseous from playing the game anymore - and another thing, your overhaul made the bosses so many times more fun and challenging!

Thank you! One of the goals of the mod from the very beginning was to make things feel less busted and more fun, so we're glad to hear we've succeeded in those regards!

Since the bosses can't be insta-killed by Twilight Mode anymore, DOORDemon edited most of their maps to include extra ammo. He might've messed with some of the other items too, but nothing felt wrong when I tested them. If you need health at the start of a level and there's no medikit, picking the other character restores you to full health. (Which actually is a feature of the base game!)

I also really like that the knife swing is both the attack and deflect and also the reworks to the difficulty system of Hard and OS Mode, at least from what I read, since I haven't actually played them yet. Looking forward to playing them and hopefully improving at the game some more. Epic mod and I hope it gets at least as many subscribers and downloads as the skuyuk title screen mod, so much work must've gone into this.

As of writing this, I've played to and completed Twilight Harbor on Normal Mode with this mod, so far it's been pretty fun.
I appreciate the updated gore and how the robots get different blood and corpse desecration noises. The MP5 losing accuracy has definitely made it less busted in a fun way and the shotgun rework makes it not broken lol.
I had to actually fight the first boss because I couldn't just kill it in twilight mode via shotgun spam, and I died a couple times too, though that was mainly because I don't think there's a health kit in that level before the boss (intentional? not sure if vanilla is the same because I've never actually died to that boss).
The Garand's scope is also very fun.
