Auto-Tracking Smart Mines

Description
Using sensors to control gyros and thrusters, a mine in a minefield can track a passing ship and chase it down to deliver its payload. If the target object gets out of range of the sensors, these mines are equipped to stop and wait again.

This world contains asmall section of a minefield of about 30 mines spaced 60-75 meters apart as a simulation. Each mine has about 9 sensors and as of the build noted in the video, the minefield can't be much larger without significant impact to frame rate. From my experience with the sensors, the more you have in a small area the slower your frame rate tends to be. The video has been sped up to appear as if in real-time

For mines, I find this design to be a good balance between size, agility and Warhead yield.

Honestly there isn't much sense in setting up a minefield like this to protect your base. Frame rate issues aside, enemy ship-board weapon systems can easily take the mines out once in range. This is just a fun experiment to see how something like this could work.

Update: 9/11
I've re-uploaded the video with a nicer frame rate and will be publishing an empty world with a larger minefield with more mines soon. I will link it here.

have you ever tried outfitting these things with grinders, essentially haveing these a swarm of these things eat a large ship and still being ready for seconds

cool but i litterally watched laststandgamers make one too (search on utube). sorry.

There is a easy way to make this kind of mine useless... if you have a missile (not the missiles made by the assemblers) ...

you could make one of the nuke type bombs so one could take out almost all if not all of the ship with just one

@Geko, I'm not familiar with who that is. There have been a lot of follower/seeker drones that have hit the Workshop since sensors were released. This is totally 100% my own design which I figured out on my own in parallel to all the others that you've probably seen.
