JGR/JNR WaMu 23000, 50000 and 90000 covered wagon

Description
The WaMu 23000 class is a 15-ton loaded covered wagon of the Japan Govermant Railways (JGR) that was introduced in 1938. It was a standard covered wagon that was added to the prewar JGR and postwar Japan National Railways (JNR) fleet, more than 6,000 cars were produced. And after the war the majority were upgraded to the speedier WaMu 90000. During World War II, a wooden wamu 50000 was also built, saving steel.

Early prewar WaMu 23000s did not have ribs on the doors. During the war, the WAM 50000 was produced, but after the war, production of the WAM 23000 resumed, and some cars converted from the Toki 900 appeared.

In order to raise the maximum speed of twin-axle freight wagons from 65 km/h to 75 km/h, the postwar JNR adopted a double-link suspension. The first such model was the WAM 90000, which appeared in 1953 and was used for express trains from 1955 with a yellow stripe added.

The majority of the WaMu 23000 were also incorporated into the WaMu 90000, and the number was added 100000 to become 123000, which was used until the end of the JNR in the 1980s.

WaMu 50000s were not renumbered, and the majority were converted to a maximum speed of 75 km/h in the 1960s. To prevent leaks, some cars had their bodies replaced with plywood.
