"The MA5D A1 is an unofficial designation given to the more recent iteration of the MA5D model, characterized by its "p/n 00118-B" body and identifiable serial number "007230814". Distinguishing features of this variant include a removable cover seamlessly integrated into the cowling, concealing a rail marked as "P/N 16309" designed for attaching compatible systems, primarily optics. In the absence of an optic attachment, users commonly rely on the integral Projection sight, featuring an emitter positioned directly above the rifle's display screen on the cowling for precision targeting.

Similar to its predecessor, this MA5D variant remains an air-cooled, gas-operated, magazine-fed, fully automatic bullpup rifle. It utilizes standard 7.62×51mm FMJ-AP ammunition from a detachable box magazine. Additionally, it is equipped with a built-in ammunition indicator and magnetic compass, providing orientation capabilities in line with other rifles in the MA5 series."
