No worries, you can safely disable it mid-game.
Also, you can interact with stations without getting close, or checking map (station browser wasnt in the game for a long time).
As a side note, I've been playing as trader on new saves wtih fog of war.
Yeah, later it's best to have full scanner range and tactical map list,
but beginnings can get interesting when you're plotting routes between travel hubs to unknown sectors,
especially when you end up with delivery to hostile faction (those work in X).
But yeah, that's just a preference of playstyle. We all have an option to use/disable it.
Sometimes pirates especially on lost friend missions, spawn in groups, and one or two decides to fly straight AWAY from the center of the sector, and end up 400 KM plus away from me, and when your in a slow ship this turns a mission that should be 5-20 minutes, to suddenly over an hour or more just to complete.
if fog of war existed, I would probly never be able to complete such missions in any Reasonable amount of time.
Thank goodness, I had some VERY OP Beam Laser Fighters, as Fighters I notice can boost race indefinitely and fly faster in Xavorion then a Large mass 448 KT 10 slot ship. Plus Fighters can be sent out to that range away from the carrier.
Again I didnt want to bring up this issue, until I had more evidence or seen if its a mod issue, though, I am mostly only using Faction mod packs and a few that add new sub-systems. So chances of a mod issue conflict are low. (even vanilla style ships have done this).
Plus All ships should have basic scanners to even be space capable or it would be super dangerous, granted basic sensors would be like, Large objects over there, a ship is over there but we dont know if its friendly or hostile.
The idea is GREAT, but I dont think the game Avorion has the right setup to make it great and immersive as much. I mean I have been wokring on a list of issues lately I noticed, writing it down, testing.
I did not want to say these til more testing and seeing If I can find solutions.
Yes, that's precisely a Fog of War
