I may or may not have pulled an all nighter just to help push this out on time for the contest... @~@

Needless to say I got a little rushed, so some sprites are... worse than others. I'll be updating Astrid later to fix the lazier and laziest sprites. This is also my first time doing anything like this! So many sprites, and so much code, this project was full of firsts for me! I'm happy with the character I put together. So without further adieu, I present my entry for the rivals 2 contest:




Astrid was a hopeful student centuries ago, one that would’ve made a great champion in the fight against the abyss. Unfortunately for her, she wouldn’t get her chance… yet. The abyss attacked her hometown and she was the last line of defense. She sacrificed herself, in doing so ensuring the villagers could escape. When she was discovered in the aftermath, she was presumed dead. Her body was laid in a temple where the stars above always shone down. However, Astrid wasn’t truly dead. She was resting, and as she slept, she found herself able to create an astral projection and soon found herself almost solely among the stars, which caused her real body to age extremely slowly, if at all.

She had been detecting traces of the abyss returning, but she felt no need to reawaken until she felt a whole city get corrupted. She has returned overground to put an end to the abyss once and for all, unaware of the current events of Aether.

• Astrid has absorbed and harnessed the power of the stars above, changing and saving her.
  
• Astrid can summon her astral projection anywhere on the stage using her DSpecial and can return to it at any moment using USpecial or you can detonate it using DSpecial a second time.
  
• Astrid can summon her astral projection anywhere on the stage using her DSpecial and can return to it at any moment using USpecial or you can detonate it using DSpecial a second time.
  
• Gravity is less powerful on Astrid. Using her DAir provides a slight boost to her jump height, or can slightly slow her descent.

Astrid thrives in close quarter combat, with a kit filled with multi hit attacks as well as some extremely powerful attacks.
