Description
Khertland fireteams and squads are led by non-commissioned officers and are equipped as standard rifleman with a FR1M Assault rifle but to provide an option for them to remain mounted and command from their vehicles, they are given a pistol for use during an emergency. Such officers are also given additional communication devices such as a mouthpiece for speaking and a quick disconnect so they can hook up to the vehicle's intercom or radio. Additionally, they are each issued a binocular.

The most junior leadership position in a squad, and leads their own fireteam is the senior most rifleman ranked at corporal. The squad's 2IC/deputy is ranked Sergeant with the squad lead a staff sergeant. On the platoon level, the commander is a commissioned officer ranked either a first or second lieutenant. He or she is assisted by a master sergeant acting as the platoon's 2IC and is also the dismount leader. The platoon commander usually dismounted, but doctrinally not required to do so; coordinates both the mounted and dismounted elements. The platoon's 2IC help manage the dismounted element alleviating the commander's burden of managing four separate squads and vehicles. The mounted element is led by the vehicle commander of the first vehicle and is also ranked a master sergeant; eliminating the need for the platoon commander to micro-manage individual vehicles. The mounted element of four vehicles is further split into two sections, the mounted commander leading one and the other lead by a section commander doubling as his/her own vehicle commander ranked as either a sergeant or a staff sergeant. The remaining two vehicle commanders are ranked corporal. Vehicle commanders are equipped with standard vehicle crew kits and not a team leader kit as the latter are intended for possible dismounting during an operation.
