Description
Changelog:
6.1.2: Fixed sizes on some units, fixed gluttony effects, small buffs to many units as they simply died too fast for their cost. Also added more pretender options.
6.1.1: Fixed equipment slots on commanders, changed starting unit types to Hive Warrior and Hive Butcher.

This is the latest version of EA Vespika, newly updated for Dominions 6 from its Dominions 5 version. There are bound to be some things I've overlooked in the conversion process so please report anything strange that you see in the mod. All content in this mod was created by me, so please do not use or modify the art assets without permission.

I consider this faction feature complete, but there's still room for expansion. I'm interested in adding some new spells and magic items to this faction, so if you feel like there's anything missing from the faction, feel free to suggest things.

This mod uses the following IDs:
Monsters = 7200-7250, Weapons = 1700-1720, Nation = 174, Namelist = 174

"Vespikan legend states that in the primordial dawn of the world, the Vespikan wasps arose under the leadership of hungry demons in a frothing cloud that rolled over the world, consuming its inhabitants. The ancient Pantokrator, shocked at what had occurred, banished the scourge to a prison outside of time. But their hunger could not be sated, and they ate their way through the walls of the prison and back into the realms of the real. Regardless of the veracity of this tale, the Vespikan killing swarms blacken the skies once again. The nation of Vespika is intensely xenophobic, seeing other races as little more than undigested food. They are divided into three castes: the most abundant are the sterile female workers, who toil in the hive cities and make up the bulk of Vespikan armies. The second are the male drones, who mate with queens to create future generations. The last are the queens, the only Vespikans capable of having offspring. Their constant reproduction drives the Vespikans to endlessly expand, always seeking more and more sources of food to bring back to the ever-growing throng of larvae. The queens form the backbone of the Hive Cult, a religion created around this never-ending reproduction and expansion. Now the Cult has found a new focus in the Devouring God and the killing swarms will feast on the world to appease their bloodthirsty master. Vespikan warriors are vicious and relentless in their attack, but avoid armor as it is too heavy for them to fly in."

If you played the Dom 5 version of this mod, first off, thank you! I hope you enjoyed it. I've made a few changes based on feedback I've collected from various lets-plays and discussion about the mod. They no longer have access to the mason ability and now have typical EA forts.

I tried playing with this today and got an error warning.
So I did the Error Check, and got the following message:
"Filename must not contain any spaces
crc: 4033dea7"
Looking through the files in the mod folder, it seems only the DM file has a space.
Not sure if it's necessary to fix it or not, but I think it's still worth notifying.

Makes sense the hivemind wouldn't want foreigners intervening so no indies

Ah got it, just caught me off guard since I've never seen a nation that doesn't get indies (even MA Ermor gets em) so I didn't know that was even possible.

They do not get any indie troops, yeah. It's both for flavor and to offset some of their other advantages.
Lordlynel 5 Apr, 2024 @ 9:34pm
Do the vespikans not get indie troops?

Well no problem the two Gods you added are perfectly suited to building a chalice for late game fixing up of queens anyways. I got lucky and got two adventuring parties around year 6-8 and was just loving the simplicity of moving my thugs in and out of a fort to heal back up while sniping there temples to move in my main army for forts. I do like the no chest slot actually it would be waaay to strong if I could stack the awe giving armours with the blood/fear attribute queens. I as a person just like creating pristine thugs is all I guess lol.

I have to agree with Eldritch Gentleman on this, unfortunately wanting to heal your thugs and not being able to is just part of the Dominions experience. Giant nations really run into this issue. At least the blood casters can heal themselves, though. I'm considering adding a magic helmet-slot item that also gives a bit of body prot to enhance thuggability on units with no chest slot.
Eldritch Gentleman 7 Feb, 2024 @ 4:36pm
Unfortunately, needing but not having a healer is universal to all nations in Dominions, so you must suffer with the rest.
Spiritualcramps 7 Feb, 2024 @ 9:05am
The queens could really do with a healer for this nation, I would thug out my Iron queens but sadly they do sometimes take damage from flying troops interrupting my spell line up, just would be nice to be able to heal them before I unlock construction 9 for the chalice, you could do the same with the ants as there actually are members of the hive that clean/lick the wounded members of the hive to stop infections so I imagine sentient ants/wasps would also do that (giving u a lore reason to ^-^) a nature summon at level 5 conjuration maybe or 6? A queens attendant or something it can be there sole job just the follow a queen around to keep her and her troops ready. I just tend to loose alot of troops to crippled units while moving around.

Small update fixing some unit sizes and gluttony property, which was changed in Dom6. Also reverted some of the HP nerfs I made while porting this mod, as the basic infantry were simply dying too fast for their cost and rarely got to make use of their berserk ability as they typically died in a single hit.
