Description
This is my first mod. Hooray!

The intent of this mod was to make the skin bandits more immersive. Basing out in Sonorous Dark with flesh brothers was nice and all, but I felt that there could have and should have been more to the skinnies. This mod aims to fix all of that.

Main Features:

Expanded Interactions

Originally, you can only really talk to Savant once to join the skin bandits, maybe do some light bartering with the bandits in the Skinhouses, and occasionally wandering Skin Bandit patrols will join you for a couple hours if they spot you out in the wild. With this mod, these interactions have been greatly widened:
  • Savant can now be talked to after allying with the Skin Bandits for information on what you can do as a Skin Bandit (such as killing rival gang leaders, skinning humans, converting skeletons, etc.).
  • Savant can now trade and buy more expensive loot off of you (he has 25,000 to 30,000 cats on him so he can afford more high-end loot).
  • In addition to buying your loot, Savant will now sell the Skeleton-Human Transformation Bible so you can learn how to craft skin suits and peeler machines.
  • Savant will also sell the blueprint to construct Outpost s-V buildings (the one the Skinhouses use) so you can set up a Skinhouse of your very own!
  • Skin Bandits in the Skinhouses have had their trading improved (they actually sell human skin now and have more money/items to trade), so now they’re a more reliable trading outlet.
  • You can turn in Elder, Valamon, and the Crab Queen to Savant for a reward (NOTE: you will NOT get the bounty claimed notification like you do with police chiefs, but if you look closely at your wallet you’ll see your balance increase upon completing the dialogue tree)!
  • Skin Bandit Patrol leaders can be talked to in order to ask them to accompany you for a skin hunt (bodyguard contract) or guard your base (previously they would randomly bodyguard you on sight for a very short amount of time, and there was a lengthy cooldown between contract triggers).
  • Skin Bandits will now have dialogue driven by world states if you eliminate their enemies.
  • Overall additional dialogue lines for ambient chatter amongst flesh brothers.

New Player Start

The Freshly Skinned: You used to be a soulless husk, a skeleton without skin. Corrupted by the ashes from the southeast and toxins of the world, you wandered the wastes for countless ages. You were nothing… but then you found HIM. Doctor Savant’s flesh brothers found you and brought you to him. With his guidance, you found your skin. You are no longer a mere skeleton. You are a human, with human skin and human sinews. You’re not quite sure why the skin tends to decompose unlike the other humans, but that’s OK. Humans share, so just go ask them for some of their skin!

Start as either a Screamer Mk1 or P4 Unit (the same subraces the Skin Bandits use) pre-equipped with a mercenary club and human skin suit. You’ll start at Skinhouse HQ along with your brothers in flesh.

Skeleton Recruitment

Savant studied skeleton psychology for three years when he was just ten years old, you know... and he decided to pass on that knowledge to you! When you trade with Savant, you’ll see a book he carries that goes over the process to reset skeletons from the Second Empire. This way, you can capture any wandering bands of the Skeleton Legion or the Sniperbots that patrol Sonorous Dark and convert them into squadmates. The process won’t work on thralled units or other skeletons, however.

Improved World States

  • The Skin Bandits’ patrol presence is buffed in neighboring zones when certain pits gang leaders are eliminated.
  • Defeating General Hat-12 will hand over the Police Stations in Cheater’s Run, Sniper Valley, and The Pits to the Skin Bandits and convert them to Skinhouses (the larger buildings also have a new custom interior for the Skinhouses).
  • The Horrible Ruins are now controlled by Skin Bandits. While they were always occupied by Skin Bandits, the game labeled the town under Deadcat’s ownership. This means that basing near the Horrible Ruins will now put you within range for a skin harvest event.

Better Faction Events

  • Skin Bandits will send Flesh Brother Reinforcements to your outpost if you come under attack by the Reavers, Crab Raiders (standard raids only, not the crab tournaments), or United Cities.
  • The Big Skin Harvest now features a new threat to the mix, the Skin Bandit Heavy. These guys have leg armour, increased stats, and sport Heavy Jittes in addition to their mercenary clubs (this new unit will also accompany certain Skin Bandit patrols wandering around and be in Skinhouse HQ).

Other Tweaks

  • Human skin suits now grant combat bonuses (because of the bloodlust from a fresh kill) so they’re actually worth sacrificing a body armour slot for!
  • Human skin suits are now crafted from a new building, the Skinning Station. This new building is researched from the Skeleton-Human Transformation Bible and uses animal skins (the product of the peeler machines) to craft.
  • All Skinhouses have been redone to use the new Skinning Station instead of the original Clothing Bench.
  • Tweaks to the Skin Bandits’ economy. Animal skins now sell for higher prices with the Skin Bandits (since they need so much fresh skin for their suits). Grog and Hashish prices have also been buffed (Savant loves the good stuff).

Cool mod! I do wanna let you know tho that the note that's meant to tell you how to convert skeletons to your squad doesn't seem to be added to Savant's vendor. Had to figure out how to use the FCS to find that out after not seeing his note on it when trading with him.

This looks like a really interesting mod. I don't think RW touches Skin Bandits and I didn't found any information online as well, so I'll add it to my list and test it. 🤞

To be completely honest, I never played with Living World or Reactive World so I'm not entirely sure. From what I've gathered from other mods that have discussed their compatibility with those two overhauls, I'd say that as long as they don't drastically alter the towns/faction of the Skin Bandits and their world states, they should be fine to use. I would suggest putting this mod at the bottom of your mod list just to be on the safe side. Thanks for the compliment as well!
