The Refreshed Components Facilities and Events mod replaces the default component, planetary facility and events art assets with new images to give a refreshed feeling to your favorite 4X game.

/========== COMPATIBILITY ==========\
Everything I know of. The mod only replaces the original art. No .xml files edited.

XL users: No conflicts. Just load XL last.

XL incorporates some (but not all) of this mod (the events images are only available in this mod). If you are using XL with this mod, be sure to load this mod before XL. Load XL after this mod.

/========== IMPORTANT NOTE ==========\
There is a quirk with DW2 that requires a full-game restart after downloading and enabling any mod. So be sure you exit out of the game after turning the mod on, then re-launch DW2. Otherwise assets and changes won't work.

/========== CONTENTS ==========\
The original art for technology components, facilities and events are fine. But after a few playthroughs, sometimes you want something more, something different, something fresh.

This mod is purely cosmetic and seeks to just add a dash of something new to your DW2 experience.

I tried to stay true to the vanilla image colors for various components in order to aid in recognition while using the new stuff--not always...but often :D

I also tried to establish certain visual themes for different component groups to aid in recognition. Reactors are vertically oriented. Warp drives are horizontal. Missiles point up and right. Bombs point down and left. Ion weaponry is blue. Plasma is green. ... That sort of thing.

Feel free to add feedback/suggestions. I can't please everyone, but I wanted to have some fun and spice things up.

Replaced art assets for:
  • 240 technology components
  • 57 Planetary Facilities
  • 49 Events

/========== HOW TO USE THIS MOD ==========\
  1. Subscribe to Refreshed Resources here in steam workshop.
  2. Launch DW2.
  3. Within the game, In the Modifications menu, enable this mod.
  4. <<< IMPORTANT >>> You must EXIT and RESTART Distant Worlds 2 before the mod will work.
  5. After re-loading DW2, start a new game and enjoy!

The Distant Worlds 2 Refreshed mod series is my attempt to increase my skills with generative AI applications, 3D modeling and photo-editing programs.

I'm just a dad gamer with limited time for hobbies who enjoys tinkering with his games. I hope these mods add to your enjoyment of DW2!

@Kagami_sama — no not possible at this time. That would be awesome, but the game is pretty locked down.

Same with character animations. Can’t have gifs/mp4… we have to use outputs from a 2D animation software suite called Spine. Costs $$$ and needs a lot of animation skills.

Im just gonna ask, author of this mod would probably know. Is it all possible to make those images animated? can a game even suport files with animation? gifs/webms/mp4?

Added "refreshed" components and planetary facilities from new DLC. I'm leaving the Events images alone. They feature the new races prominently and are fine enough.

The pictures seem to revert back to normal when loading into a game where they worked when it was first loaded up for me. Any idea whats happening?

It works on the steam deck ayy... at first it seemed not to want to launch with this specific mod, but now runs awesome 700 stars 6x6

@sana[PP] -- XL incorporates a lot of this mod, but not all of it (my events pics are different). If you load XL after this mod, it will overwrite all the things it needs to keep XL appearing as it should
