With the change of the Mjolnir into a dedicated superiority fighter the decision was made to develop a dedicated strike aircraft to fit the role left empty and such the ESDF design bureau looked into earlier multi-role aircraft made by humanity and the primary aircraft design that fit the ESDF desired requirements where the old French Dassault Rafale, Swedish Saab JAS 39 Gripen and Saab 37 Viggen and since the Viggen was the oldest of the 3 it became the namesake for the ESDF new multi-role strike aircraft.
The Cosmo Viggen can carry out a variety of missions such as anti-ship, air-to-ground and air-to-air operations, Cosmo Viggens stationed at planetary airbases will most commonly be outfitted with either bombs or guided munitions while those stationed on a carrier will mostly be equipped with gun pods or rocket pods, a wing mounted supply pod was also created in order for the fighter to deliver supply to troops on the frontline such as weapons and ammo.
