Sagrada Família · World Wonder

The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, more commonly known as Sagrada Família, is a Catholic basilica located in the Eixample district of Barcelona. When another architect resigned from the construction project of the Sagrada Família in 1883, Antoni Gaudí took over as chief architect, combining his masterful curvilinear Art Nouveau style with the Gothic revival Catholic architecture. Gaudí dedicated his remaining life to the construction of the Sagrada Família, but atthe time of his death in 1926, only less than a quarter of the project was complete. The construction of Sagrada Família was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War, and the construction was not complete even now. Yet, this building has still won the praises of numberless visitors with its colossal height and extraordinary designs, as well as a position in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list despite its incomplete status.

Antoni Gaudí is a Spanish Catalan architect. In 1852, he was born in a family of coppersmiths, and he studied architecture in Barcelona. In 1877 he took part in the designs of Pracde la Ciutadella. His modernist architecture impressed Eusebi Güell, who commissioned a number of buildings to be designed by Gaudí. When another architect resigned from the construction project of the Sagrada Família in 1883, Antoni Gaudí took over as chief architect, combining his masterful curvilinear Art Nouveau style with the Gothic revival Catholic architecture. Gaudí dedicated his remaining life to the construction of the Sagrada Família, but atthe time of his death in 1926, only less than a quarter of the project was complete.
