- The Enoch Flounder -

Description
“The Enoch Flounder, born FLX7 at production, goes by many names, — the most common one, of course, being “Enoch,” after the biblical figure, due to its longevity in the field. First (and last) produced four, five decades ago, most surviving models have been handed down through multiple crews and, thus, sport a lot of unique and often mismatching flair. This particular hand-me-down is no exception…”

TII Transport

28 crates
Crew: 6-12 and above is IDEAL, but you should be okay with 3 and up…

Please set aim assist to 0%! (Aim assist just makes it so that you don't have to click directly on the objects themselves to use them, but this is more of a nuisance when you're in a space where objects are close together, as the aim assist can't cope.)

Good morning, good evening, and good night, wherever you are! (No good afternoons, because afternoons are never good…) This, right here, is the Enoch, my latest ship. It’s also my first ever transport ship, my first ship made with lore and roleplay opportunities in mind, - and my first ever totally-incompatible-with-singleplayer ship! It’s a lot of firsts, really. Too many!

Buuut, much like the old Tubb, this has been fermenting in my files for a while now. I made it back in October 23’ for an occasion that certainly did not go as planned, and I’ve been picking at it with my fork ever since. A few good things have come of that, however! For one, I stripped it down and rebuilt it many times to land on what I really wanted. Secondly, working for so long made me more experimentative than usual, which made me implement some previously unplanned features, like a 4-camera-CCTV system. Lastly, the experimenting gave me a much better idea of what works and what doesn’t work within wiring and design.

Anyway, features, features, features…

  • Most prominently, this sub comes with a periscope-controlled attack drone. Don’t ask me precisely how it works because I've no idea — I got the idea off of observing a Chinese sub I have since lost track of, and I just tried to replicate the wirework as well as I could, adding a few of my own changes along the way.
One of the changes I made was to disregard the original recharging mechanism, and rather than have it leech power off the mothership, I gave the drone its own little reactor.
The only con of this is that the drone will, occasionally, need maintenance, aka refueling, however, I don’t think of it as a con, as it feels more realistic this way, and the drone already requires ammo to be fed into it every now and then, as well as occasional welding, so, it really doesn't change anything. Plus, the drone does not require fuel to drive - only to shoot, so there is no risk of the drone being stranded somewhere on account of running out of power - though, it can sink when damaged, so, try not to crash it. But, if you do, just weld it together again, or replace it at your next stop!

  • Secondly on this list, The Enoch also has an independent shuttle attached to it, located just below the ballast, called “The Oubliette Flounder.” (It’s unconventionally placed due to lore reasons!)
The Oubliette is roughly the same size as The Imsolf, and sports a makeshift sonar much like it. It’s fitted with three guns - two coilguns and one flak-cannon, and also features a turret switch (labeled “S”) which allows you to switch between the lower coilgun and the flak-cannon. It also has a depth charge (“bomb,”) and two discharge coils. It’s primarily designed for mining and other cave affairs, so, it also features a mineral scanner by default, a deconstructor and fabricator, some storage for your findings, but not that much else. Bots do not and should not go there by themselves. They can use the most basic of the facilities in there, but can not be trusted to reliably use either of the switchable turrets, refuse to touch the nav-term, and will be more of a liability in most situations. So, the shuttle should be reserved for you and your human bros only...
Prisoners, however, are welcome to be down there, and should spawn in its prison compartment (oubliette)…

  • Lastly, as for the mothership itself, it has 4 guns, - two railguns, and two double coilguns. And, of course, the drone and the shuttle, both of which help it in terms of firepower. The mothership has a few interesting features of its own, like the CCTV system, accessed from the command room, a vending machine on the “patio” outside the airlock, a radio announcer of enemies both inside and outside the ship, fire and flood alarms, functional furniture, an ammo shelf dedicated to recycling, toggleable lights in relevant rooms… I may even be forgetting some things. But, overall, I think I added enough convenient bric-a-bracs.

Instructions, tips, whatnot:
-To enable and disable the drone’s attack mode, click once. You WILL shoot by accident when going from attack to passive, so remember to aim away from people and other vessels.
-2 of the 4 cameras on the CCTV are portable. Plant them wherever you want, whenever you want! Planting them on the shuttle and drone, however, is a good bet, as that'll allow you to always follow your friends around in spirit, even when they venture far away from you!
-In the drone control room, there is a lever that will trigger an alarm on the drone. This is helpful for attracting enemies to it and away from you, but also for locating it for repairs when it's sunk.
-Also in the drone control room, there is a monitor which will allow you to see where your drone is relative to the ship, if you are ever lost. You can also control the ship from here, if worst comes to worst.
- In the command room, there are buttons for using the shuttle's discharge coils and depth charge remotely. Same goes for the drone room - except the drone room doesn't have a button for the shuttle's depth charge.
- The shuttle's ballast can be controlled remotely from the command room, though this feature is best reserved for emergencies.
- The fire and flood alarms reveal the locations of floods and fires.

As I mentioned earlier, the ship's a little bit role-play oriented, in that it really calls for a collaborative and communicative team to utilize its top potential. For example, from the shuttle, you can co-pilot the captain to travel faster, as both ships are capable of pulling each other along, and with the drone, you can monitor and protect divers on mining, nest, and partly even ruin missions. That being said, with three separate player-controlled vessels, there's a lot of room for creativity, teamwork, testing of your group’s strength, and shenanigans. Hopefully, this ship will serve you and your crew very well!

This sub is completed as of March 19th, 2024. Meaning, there are no more future features planned, unless I suddenly start getting new ideas. I'll always stay on top of bug-fixing, however, so, always make sure to let me know about any issues!

despite what I've written, the tone is light and I think this sub is very pretty and accomplishes what it probably was supposed to do - get that really lived in feel, so it'll serve as inspiration on my own subs to get that same feel.

the rest stop on the outside is very cute too

one of the coolest subs I've seen, it's an art piece to inspect closely. but I doubt it's been playtested very much and also wasn't meant for bots.
less than 1 minute of testing, a bot got stuck on the way to the reactor and upon investigation, the waypoints are a huge mess - probably autogenerated without being cleaned up.
a lot of stuff just fills your screen when you hit the label keybind, a fair amount could be culled in the sub editor.
periscopes are wonky to get to and select, even if you climb up there. I only managed to select them by selecting their item label.
there's a patch that's missing a wall.
putting the hatch to the shuttle below the ballast is probably not a great idea, the ballast drains into the shuttle as you go in and it drains as you try to get out, the flow pushing you back to the bottom.

a very high quality ship, i have both driven this ship and overlooked it's production and i can say with absolute certainty there was put blood, sweat, tears and love into the making of this ship.

it's good, very good.

Gonna make a feature overview video in a bit, just had to publish this beast before I went to bed, or else I'd forget or procrastinate :captainsinful::steambored:
