Arena Respawn is a Team fortress 2 mod-gamemode and server mod. It’s a modification to Arena mode and thus can only be played on arena maps.

Arena Respawn originally came out September 2014. At the time of recording this the official plugin and server configurations are set to be release to the public in the future. In the main time public independent mods based on Arena Respawn have released. For example the Resurrection mod and Arena Reloaded mod are alternatives to Arena Respawn but offer slightly modified gameplay versus the original.

On September 23rd, 2014 the mod was featured on the official Team Fortress 2 Blog’s new section. Today there are roughly 6 server running either Arena Respawn or it’s public alternatives.

So what is Arena Respawn?

In-short Arena Respawn is an Arena mod where rather then winning the round, capturing the control point instead respawns all dead teammates.

The goal of Arena Respawn remains unchanged versus the original Arena mode. Kill all member of the other team in order to win a round. It’s really straightforward. There are however some additional nuance details to Arena Respawn. (Note these may not apply to the alternative mods or may become outdated.)
  • The rate at which the control point is captured is greatly increased versus slandered arena.
  • To avoid spawn camping when players respawn they start off ubered for a few seconds.
  • It’s not possible for a team to capture the control point if they already own it; however after a short span of time the control point automatically revert to being neutral and then can be recaptured.
  • Players standing on the control point when their team already owns it receive the ‘marked for death’ debuff. It wares off after a few seconds when no longer on the control point.
  • When there are less then 7 players on each team Arena’s first-blood critical hit buff mechanic is removed.
  • Lastly, if there are only 2 players on a server capturing the control point grants the player an overheal.

And that’s basically Arena Respawn in a nutshell. A small gameplay twist on Team Fortress 2’s Arena mode.

I was wondering when someone would actually make a mod for this mode. It makes the arena mode a little more "fair" with the way respawns work and how it prevents spawn camping which has been a small problem for awhile.
