Guards of the Hold - Morthal

Description
This mod changes all Guard armour in Morthal (Hjaalmarch Hold) with models imported from The Witcher II.

THIS IS NOT A REPLACER. VANILLA ARMOUR IS STILL IN THE GAME. YOU SHOULD START A NEW GAME TO GET THE BEST RESULT.

Guards were quite short-changed in Vanilla, basically being given Stormcloak armour with different colours. Not the best if you're a guard facing down a Stormcloak charge and get mistaken for the wrong side... This mod series creates a unique look for each hold, based on its prosperity and history. Solitude guards swan around in expensive half plate and ceremonial helms, whilst Morthal guards must make do with old maille and battered roundshields.

All guard armour is CRAFTABLE. Unlike the combined version of this mod on Nexus, these armours do not rely on scripts. Instead, the appropriate crafting skill is required as given below:

Solitude: Full (bodyguard only) or half plate, ceremonial helmet, pavise shield, ADVANCED SMITHING
Markarth: Half plate, pavise shield, ADVANCED SMITHING

Riften: Maille and gambeson, pavise shield, blackened helm, STEEL SMITHING
Whiterun: Maille and gambeson, pavise shield, STEEL SMITHING
Windhelm: Maille and gambeson, pavise shield, STEEL SMITHING
Falkreath: Maille and gambeson, round shield, STEEL SMITHING
Dawnstar: Maille and gambeson, round shield, STEEL SMITHING

Winterhold: Old maille, kite shield, STEEL SMITHING
Morthal: Old maille, round shield, STEEL SMITHING

Comments:

Does NOT require any DLC.

As it is only a replacer, this mod is compatible with all mods which affect the Guard faction (e.g. More War in the Wild), save for other replacers.

Suggest that this is placed near the END of your load order.

Equipment has been made slightly stronger and more expensive to compensate for its more robust construction. Guards are now not to be trifled with!

Designed to complement my "Rebirth of an Empire" and "The Stormcloak Rebellion" mods on Steam.

FAQs:

Q: Why are guards still in their old kit?
A: Start a new game

Q: Guards are naked?
A: Try unsubscribing, deleting the mod content from Skyrim--> Data and then re-subscribing.

Q: Armor appears black until really close?
A: This is an issue with the shaders on the armour ports. It will clear up by itself after short time or restarting Skyrim (NOT a new game) might get rid of it more quickly.

really enjoyed these mods, first rate work and better than the fantasy style armor that's so common.

is it wrong that I use this when mixed with some LoZ inspired mods to make a pretty accurate Link.... (I use the tunic from this) seriously though, the entire series is awesome. well done.

@ Link: They should be v stable. Do you have any other mods that affect guards?

Hey so I really wanna use these mods but they keep making my game crash any idea why?

@ Willelmus: Not that I can think of, unless you want to go up to each guard and somehow access and modify their inventory (through the console). Don't know how to do that but there will be something on Google for sure ;)

I've noticed, Too bad Whiterun is filled with regular guys now, but at least the rest of the holds are different. Great mod, now I can play without shrieking at the anachronistic or plain horrendous wargear! - Any way to change this, by the way? Can I equip existing guards with your new gear ingame?
Becheman  [author] 5 May, 2015 @ 4:28am
@ Willelmus: It will work without starting a new game, but every guard who has already spawned will still be in Vanilla kit.

Does it only work with a new game? Kind of a bugger.

I love the look, by the way. I was looking for a more realistic style. Pity I can't see it... yet.
