Description
The Survivors Explore the Frozen Wilderness Again! (1.2)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Heading north seemed like a good idea to the Survivors, but the Minnesota winter has strained their supplies, and they can't stay holed up in their cabin forever. As they prepare for a supply run to the nearby Irons Family Mansion, little do they know its decrepit halls contain far more than they bargained for...

Crashes & FAQ
Freezing Point: Director's Cut is an add-on for campaign and survival mode. Crashes during gameplay shouldn't happen under normal circumstances, but you may have compatibility issues with other mods.

If you're experiencing crashes or other problems during gameplay, please try disabling some of your add-ons and restarting Left 4 Dead 2. Playing on a local server is also recommended.

5-Map Campaign
From the creator of Time to Die, explore the frozen wilderness of Minnesota in this newly remastered, full-length campaign! Collect lockpicks, keycards and other progression items in any order you choose on this heavily randomized adventure.

Freezing Point: Director's Cut is an expanded version of the original 4-map campaign that features longer levels and one entirely new map, all made by one person (that's me!) over the course of 10 months. The difficulty and average completion time is on par with an official Valve campaign, but with new weapons, new NPCs, and a whole lot more.

Check the Change Notes tab for full details on what's new in the director's cut!

Bonus Add-Ons
Francis has finally learned about sleeves thanks to the Official Bonus Add-On Pack! While these mods were not created specifically for the campaign, they are an officially supported inclusion that should not cause glitches or crashes. I have spent hours scouring the Workshop for high quality skins that offer warm survivors and a chilly atmosphere, but feel free to leave your own suggestions for mods I can add to the list. These skins will also work with other winter campaigns, too!

Randomized Replayability
Freezing Point: Director's Cut is about as long as an official campaign, clocking in at 45 to 60 minutes for an average playthrough — but many events and items have been randomized to make each playthrough unique. Players are also able to complete objectives in any order they want for added replayability. I highly recommend playing through this campaign multiple times to see everything it has to offer.

Custom Survivor Conversations
Do you ever think it's awkward when you play a custom campaign and the survivors never talk to each other? Freezing Point: Director's Cut has got you covered, with dozens of new conversations and quips made by remixing survivor dialogue into natural-sounding exchanges. NPCs with new dialogue and custom subtitles are also included!

As a new feature of the director's cut, survivor dialogue is now handled with vscripts, allowing for more dialogue and more variety at no performance cost.

Achievements and Easter Eggs
Freezing Point: Director's Cut features map achievements for crafty players, many of which are related to finding easter eggs — and some achievements and easter eggs from the original campaign have been changed to something brand new. See if you can earn them all based on these descriptions!

MAP 1: BELOW ZERO

MASTER OF UNLOCKING - Open the locked gate less than 30 seconds after grabbing all the lockpicks

FRESH, NEVER FROZEN - Guess who's coming to dinner?

MAP 2: OLD MANSION

WHAT A MANSION - Activate the secret elevator less than 2 minutes after entering the atrium

ALL IS BRAWL - Listen to a secret character joining the brawl

MAP 3: THE COMPLEX

TRIFECTA - Reset the door controls less than 3 minutes after reaching the surface

BIRD STRIKE - Score a KO in Super Turbo Turkey Puncher 4

MAP 4: SECRET LAB

POINTLESS PARKOUR - Leap over the barricade in the frozen laboratory from the wrong side

TRY, TRY AGAIN - Activate the controls to an accessible door

MAP 5: GAUNTLET FINALE

TRUSTED FRIEND IN SCIENCE - Find and complete the secret challenge rooms

GNOME SWEET GNOME - Interrupt someone's private relaxation without knocking

And More!
New maps and melee weapons are cool and all, but Freezing Point: Director's Cut also features tons of jokes and custom graffiti, bizarre architecture, a playable arcade game, and magnanimous snowmen.

NEW BONUS! As of April 3, 2024, the user 17 has made a mod for Freezing Point: Director's Cut that adds a bunch of brand new CUSTOM INFECTED MODELS to the campaign. I had nothing to do with this, so it's not official or canon — but give it a try if you want a more immersive experience.

Special Thanks
Hi, Kyle here. I don't have many people to thank since this campaign was once again a solo effort, but I owe a great deal to ChimiChamo and Shadowysn for their excellent scripting tutorials that shaped the dialogue and hint systems in this campaign. Also, as of version 1.1, Map 5's skybox texture is based on "Overcast Night Sky 2"[modding-assets.net] from Xblah's Modding Assets, edited by me.

As always, I'd also like to thank my wife for being a constant source of emotional support. I know I said this director's cut would be finished in the winter, but in my defense, there's still a bit of snow on the ground outside my window!

The original Freezing Point was an experiment to teach myself how to do new things in Left 4 Dead. It was intentionally short and replayable, just like the Resident Evil games that inspired it. Unfortunately, it ended up being too short, and I was never satisfied with it — so last year I decided to take a break from my next campaign and turn a bunch of unused ideas into finished levels. This director's cut took 10 months (two-thirds as long as the original) and I'm glad to say Freezing Point is finally living up to my vision.

Oh, and a huge thanks in advance to every player who downloads this campaign — that's you, hopefully!

If you'd like to help support me in these trying times, please consider dropping me a dollar on my PayPal.[paypal.me]

Steam Deck Info
Freezing Point: Director's Cut is fully playable on Steam Deck, tested by yours truly. At the highest graphics settings, there are occasional frame rate drops during intense action (45 FPS minimum). The custom HUD elements also get covered up by the new Deck-exclusive HUD for Left 4 Dead 2. Other than that, I had no issues.

Oh man, this campaign is cool (pun intended?). The more open-ended level design was quite interesting. Great work!

After a lot of playthroughs on expert difficulty, I want to say that the final part of the finale is too difficult in my opinion (especially the tank at the end, which is so close that it doesn't even give the survivors a chance to get on the truck), and there is still a problem with random crashes during loading and severe stuttering after leaving the safe house on each new map (these stutters are indeed more severe than on other custom maps, such as the Cold Front campaign). And from the really good aspects I want to note that the campaign is really unique (cut phrases of the survivors about the snow are used (even in Russian), green guards from the game files are used, but its atmosphere is a little spoiled by Easter eggs such as the coach's head in the refrigerator or the lack of random tanks and too many similar quests for finding things. But this map has a really good feeling of atmosphere and references to resident evil only make it better.

Thanks! I did not use a single asset from any Halo game in this entire campaign lol :MCCHELMET:

Astounding campaign! This was a wonderful addition to the Left 4 Dead storyline, and a wonderful use of new and exciting mission objectives. I personally loved the use of Halo 3's bunker textures used throughout it. Keep on making amazing campaigns!

The campaign is great, but sometimes it crashes randomly when loading. I'm playing without mods, and I've even tried running it without other campaigns, but it still crashes.
