Description
Gift of the Nile
An Alternate History Mod for Imperator Rome
Please note, this mod was originally a submod for Invictus, and thus is built off of any mechanics introduced by Invictus. Try out Invictus if you have not, it's a Vanilla+ mod and the recommended way to play Imperator Rome for the first time.

DIVERGENCES
Egypt, The Fourth Intermediate Period
One of the earliest divergences, key individuals after Akhenaton's reign allow for his religion to survive. This has a cascading effect that brings us to all the way to a new period of Egyptian strife more than a thousand years later, the 4th Intermediate Period.

Mesopotamia, Collapse of the Universe
Assyria and Urartu even in our timeline were miserable rivals, and in this timeline, Urartu got the better of the Assyrians. Although the Assyrian empire would collapse from this loss, Urartu too fell soon after. Babylon and Elam would gain their freedom, but they each had their own problems, keeping the region divided to this day.

Iran, Brotherly Blood Debts
Instead of our timeline where the entire Median army refuses to fight Cyrus and joins him instead, in this timeline, only about half the army does. This results in a civil war that ultimately results in a defacto peace, but the constant on and off warring has left the Medians especially weakened while the Achaemenids spend their efforts in the east.

Anatolia, Lydia in Languish
The Lydian domain expands from the Ionian Greeks to the warlike Paphlagonians in the west. This ancient kingdom is powerful, in both economic and military matters. Through this veneer of strength, cracks are showing. Led by Rhodes, the Greek states have begun to once again dissent against their Lydian overlords. Macedonian-funded pirates ravage the ships of Lydia, and an economic disaster looms large. To top it all off, the young king Adrastus Croesid has ascended to the throne. He will either save his kingdom, or utterly destroy it.

Greece, The Sons of Zeus
Whereas in our timeline Greece was shaped by the Greco-Persian wars and the Peloponnesian wars, these events simply do not happen. Greece stays defined by petty local rivalries and city states, although this will soon change. In Macedon, the old king Alexander the Wise never expanded outside of Thrace, staying away from the politics of the other Greeks, but he now seeks to unite them all, whether by diplomacy or by force. In Thessaly, the tyrant Lysimachus begins his campaign into Boeotia, seeking to crush the Thebans. Athens has risen as a rival to Korinth, the traditional power of the Greeks. Sparta remains isolated, dismayed by losses in wars against the Argives. And In the green lands of Epirus, the federal republic of the Epirotes stand poised to greatly impact wherever they may turn their spear to.

Italy, Faliscan Ascendance
The Faliscans, a people similar to the early Romans of our timeline, have created a league to push the Latin League out of Roma. Their recent conquest may prove as a preview of what is to come, if they are able to overcome their many foes. In Etruria, the Etruscan city-states are multitudinous, rich and powerful, and yet they are fractured. Perhaps one will be able to unite all of them. In the Greek south, the Italiotes still experience a golden period, even under the threat of invasions from the Samnites and Lucanians. Sicily, the island of tyrants has been overrun by invaders from Egypt. Strange men who speak a foreign tongue seek to overcome their enemies. The city of Syracuse has been freed from the tyrant Agathocles, who has been banished.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
We've been delaying the v2.1 update for a while now, but it comes out soon with new mission trees, new content, bug fixes, stability, new assets, new cultures, new religions, and more. However, v2.1 will still be missing some of the promised content that was supposed to be released including the awaited Achaemenid Mission Forrest. Thus, v2.2 will proceed this current patch with the goal of tidying up missing content, including the aforementioned Achaemenid missions, but also Hanigalbat missions, Aram missions being expanded upon, and a side goal of getting Median missions.

Finally, after we finish all that content, we will be running full force for v3.0 with a brand new map of Egypt, featuring at least like 10-20 more Egyptian tags, some with content, and hopefully more mechanics as me and the team get better at scripting. Safe to say, we have plans for continued support of this mod.

SPECIAL THANKS
Kleio - Mapping Expansions for Mesopotamia and Anatolia
Invictus - Allowing us the be Based Upon Them, Mechanics, Balancing, Support, and More
Terra Indomita - Mechanics and Support
Bronze Age Reborn - Assets, Names

Thanks again to Snowlet and the Invictus team, without whom we would both not have a mod here nor a living Imperator community to make an Alt-History mod for.

Additional thanks to the Terra Indomita team lead by Shocky and Dementive for allowing me to use their script, assets, and porting of any work I’ve done in Terra Indomita into this mod.

This mod would not be possible without assets from Bronze Age Reborn, credits to the new team led by Snowlet and the original developer Svanley, for several features, including Governments, Names, and Flag Assets.

@ImperatorAurelianus tomorrow actually, and then there will be another content update after that (last update of the 2.0+ versions), and then finally a major map update sometime in the further future (3.0)

The flags in Egypt are amazing, but when creating a new dynasty (p.e. with Menfer) or when creating Egypt itself the game puts completely shitty flags. Please keep the flags of the mod!

@LinkLuver Looking forward to it!

@spacebunny thank you! that means a lot

@Revan117 definitely plan on focus on the west soon. next update we'll be giving more attention to anatolia and the levant, but we'll have preliminary stuff for gaul and italy as well--and def greece too

@Carhd , already fixed on dev! i'll try and make sure to put it in the next content minipatch

the padus river in corniculani italy is bugged. What is supposed to be a river visually is instead farmland. Please fix.

Really enjoying this mod! It would be neat to see some of the Iberian/Celtic/Barbarian factions get more love and focus as well as Rome, Macedon and other Greek/Italic factions.

This is one of the best alternate history mods for any Paradox game, it feels well thought through and the scenario makes sense. Really good work to everyone, I can't wait to see the future of this mod.

@Baptouiste this mod is currently not supporting the invic patch, so either use old invictus or wait about a week for GotN 2.0 which will be a pretty large overhaul and compatible with invictus current patch
