High-res textures are usually fine. What really helps to avoid crashes is dividing the high-poly model (mostly the w_models, but the v_models are better to be optimised, too) into several SMDs instead of just one. I did that to all the models I am using, but kept the original 2K textures, and I am playing custom campaigns without issues.
A good example: an HQ G3 that previously was making my game crash when someone with that weapon gets killed by the Witch or pounced by the Hunter. After the model got divided into several parts, no more crashes.
The only problem with that is not all weapon mods are that easy to optimise: broken animations/meshes after re-compiling are not a rare occasion.
Low-end PC owners probably still can crash while playing with weapon mods with high-res textures. A friend of mine was playing on a potato PC, and they had to remove all the high-res mods because the game was quite unstable. Sometimes.
But in general, reducing the texture resolution does not necessarily help against crashes if the model has a hell ton of vertices and is not divided into several parts.

Lol you bet, he's still posting the same comment now, but less than before.

Not like I can go back to workshop anyway when Crowbar and VTFEdit doesn't have native Linux support, and I can't do VM or it'll tank my hardware. Bye, Chinese idiot. God, I hope Daniel still hates me, that'd be haha funny

I likes silenced weapons, but not with weird ass attachments. As long as their mods doesn't suit my taste, I will completely ignore them. For that "anti-compression leader", that guy is just another trash on workshop, due to his arrogant and rude attitude. Just treat them as transparent glasses.

Hell, one of many reasons I quit playing L4D2. Bet it's also the Chinese like animal or bai or Daniel the one doing this kind of shitty ass trash still to this day. Def won't miss em.

Overused COD animations, and some of them aren't animated properly. Aside from file size, those ugly attachments are one of the reasons I avoid them. Not only they blocking the view, and some even has weird coloring. Lots of weapon mods I saw on workshop these days are just pure trashes.

Especially after the released of BO6 months ago. That's just how it is with workshop nowadays. Popular thing got popular = workshop got saturated. I still prefer empty's armories.

This kind of old mods way better than those COD craps these days, almost all of them has the big "COD" words on the thumbnail. I'm getting sick of seeing them.
