The war. The big one. They said it was coming for so long, we built our weapons and felt the tension but-
Never thought it would actually be at our doorstep.

It was so far away that the last battles took place. Jovian folk have enough natural resources and hydroponics infrastructure to stay in their little pocket of the system their whole lives. CARBON already ran the colony, feeding them and building their facilities. The takeover was smooth this far out. Nothing of the altercations at the Lunar perimeter was any news...

This ship... even behind the whipple armor layering, insulated g-gel, and the PD net, the damned thing would never feel comforting. He hated the sickly feeling of hanging in the restraints, it mirrored the sinking feeling in his head. He tried to process as much as he could, to leave with a clear head, but he already realized that he was going to war. There was no reconciling that part. This would be the first major deployment of the First Solar War, the name tentatively passed on to this most recent conflict in light of the escalations. The name was sticking a worrying amount this time around, and the thought dawned on him the night before the launch.

The Therrien-class vessels had seen no true combat up to now; this mission was their true purpose. CARBON's engineers made certain that their new gunships would serve a proper opening to the war, and kept them quite secret outside of the force. Only two existed as of the opening hours of the First Solar War, CSNS James Therrien and CSNS Compliant Deliberator. The few Earthen strike groups who crossed the vessels in their unannounced field tests did not return with their reports. The ships were ghosts. Once they returned from the first battles of the war, they were stars.
