Chinese long and large freight transport cars can be classified into five types based on their structure: concave-bottom flatcars, long and large flatcars, drop-through flatcars, double-bogie flatcars, and clamp cars. Long and large flatcars are typically used for transporting long steel rails, bridges, various steel profiles, and industrial equipment.

The D22 series flatcars are 120-ton-class long and large flatcars that are relatively common. They come in four sub-models: D22, D22G, D22A, and D22B.
