Desolace Station/Ship V2.0

Desolace is a hybrid station/ship. This is the continued development on the first big ship I constructed. This ship is under constant development and has received a steady stream of upgrades as Space Engineers has been updated and patched. The styling was originally inspired by Keen’s red ship.

I recently refitted Desolace for the exploration feature Keen is working on. I stripped out the large drill that once ran down the spine of the ship. I decided that instead of having a cumbersome large ship drill taking up a considerable portion of my ships space I could replace it with a manufacturing bay. This enables Desolace to be more adaptable. Part of Keen’s exploration ship request asked that submissions not include gravity drives, so I removed Desolace’s gravity drive. Thankfully Desolace’s ample thruster capacity combined with the weight savings it received from removing the gravity drive and the heavy drilling rig still allows Desolace to be quick and nimble for a ship its size.

The hybrid station/ship design enables Desolace to detach the nose section of the ship which becomes a small manufacturing station with a fold out landing pad. The remaining 2/3rds of the ship becomes a medium sized cruiser, which can then patrol, provide protection or go on supply runs. Desolace is designed to operate in two different orientations, the normal ship orientation when flying forward and the deployed station orientation where the ship is standing on its nose. Traversing between these two different orientations is simple, although initially some of these gravity transitions may be a bit disorienting.

Desolace has connectors and docking clamps to supply and hold 14 medium sized small craft. All of the docking clamps will automatically disengage when a pilot approaches and reengage 8-10 seconds after the pilot leaves or enters a ship. All of the small ships included have a startup/shut down timer block set to the #9 hotkey that makes docking and undocking a breeze.

Work in Progress ... Some pictures are old.

Do you think you'll ever release the original version of the ship with the drill rig?

well, im glad you thought that about it too. I thought it was very poorly built, I just didnt want to say it lol

No someone took my design for this ship a very long time ago. They made a simpler basic ship and thats what made it into exploration update. Personally, I thought his version was a an ugly basterdasation of the Desolace. The interior was really bad.

The outside of this ship looks amost exactly like a ship I ran into in exploration. Had a glitch that let me spawn in its medbay so I did then took it over, like a space pirate. It's interior was very lacking though. Wonder if that was your first version of it I found.

I love the way its designed as both a station and a ship. Good stuff.

I subbed to this a few months ago to take a look at it eventually... what even. I... a manufacturing bay? a rotating landing pad with working gravity flips, I haven't even been past these, I'm just making random blueprints

what i did was really nothing smart all i did was strip out the drill link the two halfs together and make the underside into a cavern to fit small ships...it took me ages to figure out how to make the landing pad one with the ship...had to get rid of the rotors first
