Operation Tollgate - Wasp

Description
Operation Tollgate is a seven mission campaign for the F/A-26B Wasp. If you follow orders, you will have the opportunity to experience the various roles of the aircraft, including escort, protect and reconnaissance, as well as air-to-air and air-to-ground combat.

The average difficulty of the campaign is moderate with the level of difficulty increasing with each mission. The campaign was designed to fly the missions sequentially. The missions are also specific as to the time of day, but for most missions you may choose morning, day or night for different experiences. You will unlock further weapons according to mission requirements and success, and eventually unlock the entire arsenal available to the aircraft, enabling you to go back and replay with previously unavailable weapon options. Recommended loadouts for each mission are described in the respective briefings. The campaign also allows for unlimited saves through the Quick Save feature.

We hope you enjoy Operation Tollgate as much as we enjoyed creating it! Please rate your experience and post any comments, responses and especially issues encountered so your experiences and views may be considered in updates as well as future mission development. Positive ratings encourage your fellow gamers to create new mission content for our Workshop Community!

@DukeOfScotland, thank you for posting your kind words. We are pleased you enjoyed the campaign.

This is an awesome campaign - on par with the orignal campaigns of the game. I absolutely recommend playing this. Heck, I'd sponsor the author a "coffee" if he posted a link like that.

One of the comments mentioned that there would be long transit times between mission waypoints. I didn't notice anything like that. I'd say the distances going into a mission where never longer than 25 nm, and RTB at the end was like 30 nm or something like that. I find that absolutely acceltable. Making the way in much shorter would deny the player the possibility to do long range strikes from far up high.

The other thing, that you have to wait a few minutes at the beginning of a mission for your wingmen to take off, yeah, thats a slight inconvenience that happens a couple of times. The pacing would be more fun if they were already in the air when the player takes off. But thats only a minor issue for me.

Thank you. That helps me better understand the issue.

I took the mission as "complete" after I downed 18 planes plus every radar and took it as complete. But no, I wasnt able to get Mission Complete.

Thank you for letting me know of your issue. Were you able to complete that last mission or did the issue prevent completion? At my earliest opportunity, I will try to replicate the issue you cited, but my gaming system is down and I do not know when I will be able to restore it to re-fly that mission. Thanks again for posting.

I love this campaign! The only issue I had was in the last one, where it says Destroy Fighters (26), I could only get 18 fighters downed, and 4 of these at least were ALWAYS stuck on the airport waiting to take off. not all 26 fighters seem to spawn.

As someone learning the game I enjoyed the slower pace of these missions. However, I agree the amount of downtime is too much with the cold start and waiting for AI teammates just to fly across the map for little to do there before turning back with nothing to do.

A lot of work has been put into this campaign, and I really like when creators take the meta weapons away and force players to learn new ways to play. I wish there were more creators like this.

But I can't recommend this campaign. The two main reasons are:

1- The amount of downtime. Most missions require to form up, but the AI starts cold and choose the worst runway possible, and sometimes it waits for other AI to take off first. After this you dedicate a lot of time flying straight to objectives on the other side of the map. When you finally get there you do very little (which isn't bad for itself if the campaign aim for a low density experience) and then go back to base.

2- The amount of AI doing nothing, degrading performance. I know this give a sense of lively missions, but VTOLVR lacks optimization, shoving most AI logic into a single cpu core. My i5-13600K struggles to maintain 72fps and I get about the same performance experience as if playing Liberation in a full lobby.
