Zards

Created for the Unique Assists Fraymakers workshop contest.


Zards turns the typical Fraymakers game play loop into a card matching game! Each of the 26 available Zards have their own unique buff effect to make the player stronger!

Matching three of the same Zard grants an enhanced version of that buff such as flight, extra jumps, or more airdashes!


To get a Zard, simply hit the opponent! There is a 25% chance to get a Zard when hitting an opponent! (Multi-hits will only grant one Zard per use of the move)

Once obtained, a Zard will appear in the Zard holder.


To use a Zard, use the assist button to bring up the menu, then press the respective button to use the Zard!

The respective buttons are Attack, Special, and Grab from left to right.

When trying to use three of the same Zard, press any button to call upon the effect!


1: Grants one extra airdash!
3: Grants 3 extra airdashes!

1: Makes character 1.1 times bigger!
3: Makes character 1.5 times bigger!

Allows the player to cancel anything by hitting the emote button
1: Allows 1 cancel!
3: Allows 5 cancels!

1: Reduces damage taken and knockback taken. Also increases character weight
3: Greatly reduces damage taken and knockback taken. Also drastically increases character weight

Delayed Explosion - Once a for is hit, a delayed explosion will occur once they exit hitstun making it easy to follwup!
1: 1 Explosive hit
3: 5 Explosive Hits

1: The player can float from left to right! This is toggled with the emote button
3: The player can fly in all directions! This is toggled with the emote button

1: Gravity is lowered!
3: Gravity is greatly lowered!

1: Heal 10 damage
3: Heal 100 damage

1: Go invisible for 3 seconds
3: Go invisible for 9 seconds

1: Grants 1 extra jump
3: Grants 3 extra jumps!

1: Increase knockback dealt!
3: Greatly increases knockback dealt!

1: Removes all landing lag for 10 seconds
3: Removes all landing lag for 30 seconds

1: Decreases player size by .1
3: Decreases player size by .5

1: Heal 5 damage continually over time
3: Heal 5 damage continually for a longer period of time

Observe Hit - When hit by a foe, observe will trigger causing the player to freeze the match and teleport behind the foe
1: 1 Observe hit
3: 5 Observe hits

1: Spawns a platform for 10 seconds
3: Spawns a platform for 30 seconds

1: Increases movement speed
3: Greatly increases movement speed

1: Rewinds back damage, lives, and position
3: Rewinds back damage, lives, and position over a longer period

1: Increases damage dealt and knockback of all attacks
3: Greatly increases damage dealt and knockback of all attacks

1: Stops time for 2 seconds
3: Stops time for 5 seconds

1: Sends the character up!
3: Sends the character way up!

1: Sends the character forward with high speed
3: Sends the character forward with super speed

1: Pushes all foes away
3: Pushes all foes away even stronger

1: Buffs the character with more damage, speed, and gradual healing
3: Buffs the character with more damage, speed, and gradual healing but to a greater effect

Yoyo Hit - When a foe is hit, they will get hit and bounce back to the original spot
1: Gives one yoyo hit.
3: Gives 5 yoyo hits.

1: Summons me!
3: Summons me but stronger!
