Description
Agathis australis is a conifer from the northern island of New Zealand. It can live for thousands of years and grow to tower over the forest canopy. It's currently threatened by a very lethal tree disease.
Fossils which can be confidently assigned to Agathis date from right after the Mesozoic, but pollen and foliage suggest that it was found in the Cretaceous too.
