Journal of Conrad Azohi - Day 1,373 after embarking

Today's entry is another use for the sweating stone.

If the putty is allowed to rest for a period of time, eventually it stops producing the sticky fluid. A short time after that, the triplex bonds decay and the material becomes inert, sandy material. However, in that window where the putty is dry but the triplex bonds are still present, it can be mixed with the crystal precursor. This accelerates the decay of the triplex bonds, but the excess energy released drives a chemical interaction, turning the mixture into a red gel.

This gel is very stable to most forms of interaction, but burns slowly and in predictable ways. It is then loaded into lanterns which behave similarly to the gas lanterns of the imperial lands.

Until I saw this gel being produced, I thought the lanterns in the town used oil. Now, I realize that these people don't have access to oil or burnable gas, but instead exclusively use this gel to fuel their lighting.

The gel has certain similarities in structure to the lambent compounds, particularly with a gold core present in the molecule.
