Description
***THIS TERRAIN IS CURRENTLY HEAVILY WIP AND SUBJECT TO SUBSTANTIAL CHANGE BETWEEN NOW AND FULL RELEASE!***

I fully intend on continuing to update this terrain. I just thought that releasing a work-in-progress version could be nice for the 80th anniversary of the battle. So here we are.

About:
This is a terrain based on the town of Bastogne in the Wallonia region of southern Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. The town of Bastogne itself is present, alongside surrounding villages such as Foy, Bizory, Longchamps, Recogne and more. The environment is a mix of open, snow-covered fields, scattered villages and dense winter forests.

🗺️
Features:
  • ~80km2 Terrain Size
  • >500,000 Objects
  • Custom Microterrain and Objects
  • Custom Textures
  • Custom Lighting
  • A mixture of open and urban terrain
  • Semi-authentic towns and villages using period-accurate photos, maps and wartime reconnaissance imagery

🔧
In Progress:
  • Additional detailing
  • More custom objects
  • Completion of unfinished locations
  • Improved road textures
  • Functional roadsign network (present but not functional as of yet)
  • Defensive positions, foxholes etc. (maybe as a separate version of the terrain, maybe not)

🗒️
Note(s):

  • This map was designed to be played with overcast skies, light/heavy fog and snowfall. Please consider using these parameters to get the best "feel" from the terrain.

  • There is a distinct lack of good winter objects available for Arma 3. Even less so in the setting of the second world war. We are working on more custom objects, but they take time. In the meantime, any contributions are welcome.

Known Issues:

Snow Sound Controller Broken
The current setup for converting rain to snow is broken[feedback.bistudio.com] on Bohemia's end, and must be enabled via script using setRain[community.bistudio.com] in your mission files.

Use a game logic or script and simply use the following code which should fix the issue for now:

setRain rainParams;

I will keep an eye on this and update it if/when it is fixed.

📌
Credits:
Ixo/Tor - for singlehandedly creating and contributing a bunch of custom objects
The Misfits - for playtesting, and critiquing the snow
Temppa and KuiK - for footstep sounds and configs
Heavy Ordnance Works - for the Spearhead origami files, and a fantastic cDLC
IFA3 and NF Devs - for textures and objects
GrueArbre - for the GRM tool
colemanerik, hipper37, JohnTHQ, Crease - for troubleshooting and other contributions
World War Media - for aerial reconnaissance images

Consider buying me a coffee if you enjoyed this terrain and want to support more of my work in the future:

Amazing! Also for those who need foxholes, check the workshop.

this map is amazing, but I have the hardest time finding any foxholes, Is there a way to easily identify them from the map?

@GreatHambeno What @Machine Gun Kelly said is the likely cause, but keep in mind that there are parts of the map that are incomplete but still have roadways, which might give the impression that buildings are missing.

@GreatHambeno -

TYPICALLY, missing buildings indicate one of two things:

#1 - You're missing a required mod.

#2 - You have 2+ mods doing similar things and are 'stepping' on each other.

It's one or the other (that is, unless your ARMA files are trashed)

Good luck!

:)

Yeah, the workshop page has a patch notes area up in the top right. Most recent update was only a small config change to make it compatible with ACE trenches.

@Parkomobil The wool overcoats are from US General Equipment and Accessories. Lots of good winter stuff in that mod.
