Despite having Infinite Ammo, they are compensated by generally being weaker than most other guns as a tradeoff, later they do get more powerful, but it's better to treat the Blasters as a backup weapon, so that you always have a Ranged/Gun option on you at all times to switch to.
If you're like me and hate having to micromanage Hirelings for Ammo and Equipment for more Ammo, this is a pretty great alternative to mods that just give you a flat +10 extra ammo for example.
