Maya

Description
Maya cleaves her way into Smack Studio! Although she can use poison magic, Maya opts to instead play fair in Smack Studio through her sheer strength alone. Maya is designed to be both casual and tournament-friendly, as she was made with the intention of fighting on even ground with the Base Roster cast.

I will eventually give her a video walkthrough of her moveset at some point in the future.

NOTES
Maya is a heavy and slow character. Her strengths are in her reach, damage output, and kill power. However, Maya's primary weakness is that her attacks are very slow, and her huge size often turns her into combo food for faster characters. To somewhat compensate for this weakness, at 100% damage, Maya gains some additional frames of superarmor on hitbox frames on certain attacks. This superarmor status effect is visually indicated by the large circular icon fading in and out behind her, and her scythe-axe will glow for any superarmor frames are active.

SPECIALS:

NEUTRAL SPECIAL: TWILIGHT'S DIVIDE
Maya, raising her scythe-axe, charges up her attack before slamming her weapon into the ground, unleashing a crescent-shaped attack. This move can be unleashed right away with a weak hit, or held in place for a stronger, larger attack. It has five tiers of charging up.

SIDE SPECIAL: PHASM PHASING
Positioning herself, Maya hoists her scythe-axe behind her and charges up her attack. Unleashing it, she rapidly slides forward, swinging her weapon horizontally. This move deals more percent and goes farther the longer it is charged. It can only be used once while airborne - until Maya grabs the ledge or touches the ground, she cannot use Side-B again. Side-B goes farther while in the air than on the ground. Side-B cannot slide off platforms. Maya's horizontal distance will stop at ledge and the attack animation will continue as normal.

UP SPECIAL: WANING MOON
Maya swings her scythe-axe upwards, leaping into the air with her axe drawn back, before swinging it forward, plummeting to the ground. This attack starts off with a strong hit with set vertical knockback, sending opponents upwards, before spiking the opponent downwards, launching them directly into Maya's landing attack. It is functionally similar to Ike's Up-B.

If you use this move offstage and there is no ground or platform beneath you, it is almost guaranteed to result in Maya losing her stock. If you use this move offstage and an opponent is unfortunate enough to be hit by it, they will be spiked by the descending hitboxes.

Please note that Up-Special has superarmor on much of her startup. She loses this armor the moment she tries swinging her sycthe-axe backwards. The rest of the move does not have any superarmor, even at 100%.

DOWN SPECIAL: CRESCENDO
Aiming her scythe-axe outwards, Maya flies forward, using her weapon as a wall to batter opponents. This move functions similarly to Captain Falcon's Down-Special from Super Smash Bros Melee. If used offstage and in the air, Maya will instead aim her scythe-axe at a downwards angle and descend rapidly. She gains 1 additional jump from using this move offstage, similar to how Captain Falcon's Down-Special works in Super Smash Bros Melee. If she lands too late in the attack, it does not do the second hit upon landing.

SMASHES:

All Smash attacks gain superarmor during hitbox frames when Maya is at 100%.

FORWARD SMASH: WAXING CRESCENT'S CLEAVING
Maya swings her weapon overhead before slamming it down into the ground with enough force to lift her off the ground. This is a kill move, but it is very punishable due to the sheer startup and endlag.

DOWN SMASH: FULL CRESCENT'S CAREENING
Maya crouches, before spinning around in a circle with her scythe-axe, slicing anything within reach. This attack can deal up to two hits to the same player, but if the second hit lands, it deals far less damage.

UP SMASH: WANING CRESCENT'S CRUSHING
Maya bends down before unleashing a powerful swing overhead that slams on the other side of her. This is also a kill move, similar to Forward Smash, but is even more punishable as it has more endlag.

AERIALS:

NEUTRAL AIR:
Maya hoists her weapon down in front of and below her. If she lands while in this pose, she deals a second hit upon landing with a visual cue and effects.

FORWARD AIR:
Maya swings her weapon down in front of her. This attack has a sourspot hitbox on the hilt.

UP AIR:
Maya spins with her scythe-axe, aiming above her. This attack deals 10% with no sourspot hitboxes.

DOWN AIR:
Maya stomps below her, hitting any opponent unfortunate enough to be caught by her legs.

BACK AIR:
Maya swings her fluffy tail behind her, thwacking opponents with it.

TILTS:

UP TILT:
Maya lifts her scythe-axe upwards. This acts as a combo-starter.

FORWARD TILT:
Maya swings her scythe-axe downward, having the greatest horizontal reach of her tilts. However, it is slower than down-tilt, and has the most endlag of her tilts.

DOWN TILT:
Maya swings her axe down quickly. It's her second-fastest move.

DASH ATTACK:
Maya dives at the opponent with her axe, falling to the ground and skidding a bit. She can dash attack off platforms. If she successfully hits an opponent, her endlag is greatly reduced, otherwise this move is very punishable.

GRABS:
Maya has a Frame 7 grab at relatively close range. Due to her huge size, this can be a problem with trying to approach opponents with her grab.

FORWARD THROW: Maya holds the opponent up before winking.
BACK THROW: Maya gives the opponent a lap pillow before chucking them beind her.
UP THROW: Maya smacks the opponent with her scythe-axe in a similar manner to her up-tilt. It's a good combo starter.
DOWN THROW: Maya pins the opponent down before slamming her axe down on top of them.

ULTRA: GREAT CRESCENDO
Maya charges up for a swing, sending a massive crescent-shaped blast outwards. Any players hit by this attack are put in hitstun. She follows this large attack up with several smaller projectiles that can chase the opponents down for 2.5 seconds before disappearing. These projectiles stun the opponent in place, allowing Maya to follow it up with a strong finishing blow. Maya can be hit for the entire duration of the Ultra, so please keep that in mind.

TAUNTS:

Maya has four Taunts. Pressing A or B during her Default Dance Taunt will switch to another Taunt, or cancel the animation. Maya's taunts loop indefinitely until you do a movement, jump, shield, or Taunt input, which will return you to Idle.

Taunt (Default): Maya does a cute little dance loop.
Taunt + A: Maya transforms into her a MS Paint chibi.
Taunt + B: Maya sleeps on her fluffy tail.
Taunt + A + B: Maya spins in place, showing off the 3D rig!

OTHER NOTES + TIPS:
Maya's hurtboxes cover her entire sprite. Do note that there are no hurtboxes for Maya's tail. Maya's tail is too fluffy to have hurtboxes.
