USSR - Modernity is a pack of repaints for ZiU-6205 [620500] trolleybus.


About the model itself:

The ZiU-683 (also ZiU-10 and ZiU-6205) is a Soviet and Russian articulated three-axle trolleybus based on the ZiU-682 model. The first prototype was built in 1978. In 1986, the Uritsky plant mastered the production of articulated three-axle trolleybus of especially large capacity ZiU-683B with thyristor-pulse control system (TISU), allowing to save up to 25% of electricity. Later this model was modernized. It is operated in many cities of Russia and CIS.

The first articulated trolleybus ZiU-10 appeared at the Uritsky plant in 1978. The idea prototype was another famous 18-meter trolleybus SVARZ-TS, which was produced in Moscow in the 1960s and had a very high passenger capacity - up to 300 and more people. At that time, the ZiU-682 (ZiU-9) models were in operation, which became the basis for the articulated 683 models. The first produced ZiU-683 was tested in Saratov and Engels, where it was assembled, and in 1978 it was sent to Moscow for operation. At first, this trolleybus did not stand out much against the background of the newest or serial releases, had a bulky rheostat-contactor control system of electrical equipment and accelerated up to 45 km/h. In 1982, a modified vehicle with thyristor-pulse control system (TISU) was produced, but due to control problems it was sent back to the factory.

The first ZiU-10 operated for 9 years, until 1987. Since 1986, serial production of ZiU-683B [B00] models equipped with engines of Dynamo plant was started. Since the late 1980s ZiU switched to production of ZiU-683B01 modification with RCSU. The rheostat-contactor trolleybuses ZiU-683V01 were kept in production until 1995. Since the beginning of 1991 ZiU-683 in various modifications started to be exported to the Balkans, Poland, Ukraine and other CIS countries, also to Greece and even to Argentina. The production decline began in 1992, however, in 1993 the production of the ZiU-6205 model began, which had a number of additions and modifications.

In 2003, the model was modernized similarly to the 682 model: with removal of electrical equipment on the roof, installation of planetary doors, and fiberglass front mask. The first such vehicles were delivered in the same year to Moscow and St. Petersburg. In 2008, TrolZa finally completed the production of articulated vehicles.
