Inspired by various LMGS from World War 2 like the BREN & MG42, as well as commonly used materials and treatments. We'd like to imagine it had been used in hot climates like Northern Africa before it was collected, cleaned and prepared for display at a museum.

  • "The weapon has a steel base heavily battle-damaged from overheating, light exposure, and other environmental stressors, It's also outfitted with brass fitments that are in decent shape.

  • The magazine has canvas cloth wrapped over the magazine with press-stud fastenings in brass. There is some loose threading along the seams, several spots of sun damage, and deep-seated mud/dirt that wasn't possible to remove without damaging the item.

  • The wood was originally stained with what's most likely linseed oil and then treated so It has aged somewhat well in terms of color/shine but has a large amount of dents and cuts, with severe damage to most edges."
CONCLUSION:
"Mainly superficial damage to the surface materials, in theory it should still be operable.."

The steel oxidizes with wear and it loses its blue hue, the magazine's cloth cover gets ripped up and muddy. The wood starts getting darker (click to enlarge gif)

At first we simply wanted to make a Negev with wood sections since there aren't any in-game, but then came the idea of creating an old battle-damaged weapon you'd see at a museum which made it a lot more intriguing.

We decided to go with WW2 since there was such a wide variety of styles and materials depending on where/when it was manufactured. I then asked my friend Thorben, who's an archaeology/history student with a suspicious amount of knowledge about WW2 weapons for help, and it was extremely helpful!

We tried to make it as grounded as possible without making it boring so we stuck to materials and colors that were used at the time but definitely exaggerated some parts to get a cooler look. Having someone who can tell you what looks right & wrong in terms of materials they used, how metal & wood looked depending on what it was for (helmets, weapons, vehicles, equipment etc) saved so much time and made things way smoother!

Hope some of y'all like it even if it's just a low tier Negev, have a good day if you for some reason read this far down! /Quzga
