HIMS Resplendent Fury

With development started after intelligence reports of a new Dominion battlecruiser design, the Resplendent Fury and its sister ships were intended to outmatch such an opponent to maintain decisive naval superiority. It was only near the completion of Nemesis that it became clear the reports had been inaccurate, leading to a class of warships with a grossly oversized secondary battery compared to any likely opponents. With construction too far along to scale back the design, the resulting leap in battlecruiser capabilities was unprecedented; the final cost and scale of the project neared that of the Astral Glory. In order to maintain its impressive top speed, the class bears a much slimmer hull than contemporary battleships, leaving insufficient space for the traditionally preferred wing turrets to make up its firepower. With the admiralty both unable and unwilling to develop a triple gun turret within the necessary timescale, the shipwrights were forced to place part of the main battery amidships, the notably extensive rigging existing in no small part to support the weakened section of the superstructure resulting from this decision.
