Roxey Aoreolum 2.0

Description
Roxey Aoreolum is ready to fight! Level up and unlock new moves, while smacking everyone out of the way!

In this new version, Roxey comes equipped with a whole new moveset (almost no move stayed the same from the previous version)

But, much as her previous version, she still needs to unlock them. Start slow, end fast!

*Note: This was reuploaded as a new character because of her differences with the previous one. This way, the old one can be mantained while this one gets released.

MOVESET

The rest of this will be a bit of a spoiler for those who prefer finding out what she unlocks by playing:

  • Roxey's jab can now end with up to four different attacks (neutral, side, up and down). All of these need to be unlocked.

  • Roxey's dash attack can evolve to a faster variance, and can now unlock an upwards dash attack.

  • Roxey's utilt is the same.
  • Roxey's ftilt is the same.
  • Roxey's dtilt can now obtain a follow-up, which is great for finishing stocks.

    • Roxey has new strong attacks, all of them performed by Danarias (see allies).
    • Up strong: Danarias swirls her spear upwards, trapping enemies hit. After that, she performs a downwards strike.
    • Down strong: Danarias launches forwards, striking several times.
    • Side strong: Danarias performs a strong, single hit that reaches far away.

    • Any strong when Danarias unavailable: Roxey charges a very strong punch, capable of closing stocks extremely early. However, she's very open to hits while this punch is charging.

  • Roxey's nair is now a multi-hit, racking up damage quickly. It doesn't cancel upon touching the ground.
  • Roxey's fair now moves her a bit forwards, and stops any vertical momentum for a while, perfect for quick advances.
  • Roxey's bair is the same.
  • Roxey's up-air works mostly the same, but now is easier to hit. It goes straight into the last hit upon touching the ground.
  • Roxey's dair works the same, but now can trip herself if used too close to the ground.

Roxey has seen all of her specials replaced, so here's a rundown of the new specials:

  • Neutral special: Summon Nagase: Nagase stays until she's hit by an attack, or Roxey falls from the stage. She will start the game with a random spell, and from there on, she will always follow the same rotation: Fire, Ice, Thunder, Dimension and Darkness.

    • Fire: Launches three quick fire balls aimed to the nearest enemy. These aren't too strong, but they aren't weak either.
    • Ice: Launches a snowball forwards, which breaks up into five icicles upon touching a floor, wall or an enemy.
    • Thunder: Launches a slow but strong ball that homes into the nearest enemy.
    • Dimension: Creates a portal between Roxey and the nearest enemy to Nagase, that any character can enter. They will exit doing the same attack they were doing upon entering, unless said move can't be done in the air.
    • Darkness: Fills the stage with darkness, dealing damage to everyone, including Roxey.

  • Side special: Summon Aledyr: Aledyr stays ready, aiming towards the last enemy hit by Roxey. After a short while, she shoots an arrow which deals a bit of extra damage.
  • Down special: Summon Laylah: Laylah stays ready, countering any attack she receives. If hit by a projectile from far away, she will teleport to the player who hit her, regardless of distance!
  • Up special: Accelerando: After a small preparation, Roxey launches into the selected direction, grabbing any enemy hit in the way. She'll then throw them in an ideal position for a follow-up. Enemies can mash out of the grab.

POINTS OF INTEREST

Allies
All of Roxey's allies can be defeated by attacking them, even the counter one (under certain circumstances). Hitting them will disable them for a while, depending on the damage dealt by the attack. So, if able, try hitting them as hard as possible!

Combos
New to this version, your allies can also be used for some special interactions, which they call combos. Most of them are clearly stated in-game with prompts, but some are hidden. Try to find them all!

Changed techs
  • Levels: Previously she used to have 5 levels. I raised that to 50, and made it so the amount of stocks decide how much EXP you get. In theory, you should be able to get at least 40 levels in any given battle where Roxey isn't getting bullied.

  • HP: All stocks have been combined into one, in a ratio of 100HP per stock. Falling out of the stage will deal 100 damage to Roxey, so don't get cocky just because you don't lose lives!

  • Energy: Gone is the mana system, now energy is where it's at. Energy as a resource is used to summon allies, and to grant Roxey access to enhanced movement options. It will replenish while she's not attacking, and much faster if she's idle on the floor.

  • Wallrunning: Who needs a walljump when you can wallrun? Performed like a walljump, but holding the button (or the movement stick towards the wall), Roxey will climb it up. This depletes the energy bar very fast, but the speed is upgraded each level.

  • Backjump: When jumping backwards in the air (second jump), Roxey will halt all forwards momentum to make it easier to move back.

  • Guard: Parries are a thing of the past. Actually, never mind that. Roxey can't parry, but she can guard for as long as she has energy, even in the air!

  • Dodges: Roxey's dodges are different than the ones in RoA. From her guard position, she can dodge forwards, backwards, in the spot, and even up! The up dodge should let you climb into some of the game's platforms. Also, the amount of invulnerability she gets scales with her level, but if she tries to dodge without enough energy, she won't have any!

  • Aerial-dodges: Roxey's aerial dodges will feel strange to someone used to RoA. I mean, who can directional dodge IRL anyways? If you dodge without enough energy, she won't have invulnerability, but she will go much farther.

  • Rage: New to this Roxey, she can get pissed of. While she's pissed off, her attacks hit slightly harder, and her movement will become the equivalent of her maximum level. These are the things that piss her off:
    • Having to run behind enemies all the time.
    • Seeing her friends get hit.
    • Getting hit.
    • Getting hit by a projectile. (Pisses her off more than a normal hit)

*Rage can be accumulated while Guarding.

  • Last ditch effort: When Roxey hits 0HP, she will become extremely tired, but will keep on fighting until she's hit once again. She cannot jump, but she can normal attack, special attack and parry.
    • Normal attack: Launches forward, dealing a bit of damage and canceling upon hitting an enemy. It can be charged for a bit more range, but the damage stays the same. If hit, pressing special will make Roxey perform a faster version of her special attack.
    • Special attack: Perform a quick dodge, followed by an uppercut with all her strength. This attack can KO opponents, contrary to her normal attack, but is extremely slow, even if it hits.
    • Parry: Just the usual parry, but much slower than a regular parry.

KNOWN ISSUES

  • Having too many Danarias' out will make the game lag. This is unavoidable AFAIK, since Danarias uses up a character slot.
  • Likewise, beware that this may cause incompatibilities with certain bosses, or other characters with the same issue as this.
  • When playing in 3P or more, if Roxey gets defeated before anyone else (this includes multiple Roxeys), when the game finishes, the game will think she won rather than lose, regardless of who won the battle. Clearly a reference on how she refuses to lose and totally not a bug, yeah.

Actually, that might not be enough because her death sequence somehow skips the score screen.

If you want Roxey to be compatible with Outskirts Invasion, that mod's workshop page explains how to do it so her HUD should work & she should be able to gain EXP.

Weirdest glitch so far: I was one hit away from entering dying state when the Abyss Endless boss hit Danarias with a basic projectile, which disabled my controls & caused Danarias to turn into a second Roxey & do her dying animation, which ended the match even though I was still alive.

No idea. And yeah, it's a weird issue. She's not the first character I've used who breaks replays but normally, they just desync instead of being totally inactive. Fortunately, the usual method of just directly recording gameplay with Bandicam still works.

The only case I know of where a character broke replays at first but it got fixed later is Jerma985 but with him, it was just a desync problem & not full inactivity. I don't know how he got fixed though. Snake still desyncs in replays & I think Ayaka still does too.

Ow, sadly I don't know what could be happening. Is there a way to send replays so I can check them?
D YellowMadness 14 Jun, 2024 @ 8:42pm
I was wrong. She still does nothing in replays. Just not all of 'em.

Mr Bones, it's not an acronym. If you look it up, you should find it, although not in Steam yet. Happy gaming!
The Blabber 7 Jun, 2024 @ 10:36pm
what's the acronym mean
D YellowMadness 7 Jun, 2024 @ 8:35pm
Oh wow, you really did fix the replays. That's a problem kind of a lot of characters have but it usually doesn't get fixed.

Hi Golden Kirby, if you manage to make it happen a couple times, please tell me how to replicate it, and I'll do a hotfix. Thanks for playing Roxey!
