Why are you writing this guide?
I enjoy helping others by writing about technical topics to a higher standard and provide key findings for a higher chance of success!

Who is the intended audience?
The guide is for everyone, but much friendlier to new players. Everything will be explained to be on the same level as those who are the most experienced. The writing will be easy to follow with plenty of screenshots for those who are too lazy to read everything!
Who is Big Snazz?
She is the ferocious tiger mascot of the Big Cat Power flag in the pixel game called YPP.
If she was human, her perfectly matching role would be the Ranger!

Her ferociously aggressive personality will guarantee the demise of any Alien who crosses her path!

Her intuitive nature always finds creative ways to defeat every Alien, regardless of how strong they are!
Preferred 1st Ability: Phantom
The best skill for the very first Ranger who will perform reconnaissance and rescue civilian tasks.
Blademaster is better for any secondary Rangers who will perform offensive roles only.
Routine Ambush Scouting
The Ranger with Phantom skill will locate enemy pods for the squad to set up ambushes.
The Sniper usually fires first to trigger and lure the enemy directly into the squad.
The Ranger should stay moderately distant to the enemy pod and behind full cover to avoid being detected.

Note: The concealment will be lost when moving too close to the enemy or directly attacking.
Sniper Spotting
The concealed vision provided by the Ranger directly benefits the Sniper's Squadsight.

The Sniper will then be able to shoot at great distances and even use the Deadeye ability!

The aim penalty increases with distance and shots may not connect.
Protecting You From Yourself: Civilian
The Phantom skill is invaluable to keep the Ranger concealed during Retaliation events.

More civilians can be safely rescued without triggering any enemy pods in the process!

Such maneuver can be done right in front of the enemy pod to avoid losing a civilian during the enemy's turn.
Safe Loot Extraction
The same can be done to recover loot silently without alerting nearby pods.
Preferred 2nd Ability: Shadowstrike
The ability bonus only pairs well with Phantom skill and works only once per concealment break.
Shadowstep is not as useful when the Ranger will stay mostly concealed and most types of enemies will miss their mark.
When to Shadowstrike
The Ranger must target the toughest enemy to make most of the critical high damage.

The preferred target is the very last pod unless concealment can be done a second time around.

Sword attacks are risky and can expose the Ranger to return fire when taking cover is difficult.
Preferred 3rd Ability: Conceal
The repeated concealment allows engagement of 2 pods, without losing reconnaissance ability.
Run and Gun is only useful for the offensive Ranger with the preferred rifle for more firepower range.

Note: Repeated concealment allows the Ranger to correct mistakes when being revealed too soon.
Assassination Scouting: Single Target
The Ranger must have only one enemy unit in view with the rest hidden in the fog of war.

The Sniper having the most range could inflict lethal damage without triggering the rest of the pod, preferably with the Deadeye ability.

Note: Any non-lethal damage will cause the rest of the enemy pod to react instead of pretending nothing happened.
Preferred 4th Ability: Bladestorm
The automatic attacks are very effective in ambushing all enemy reinforcements at the red flare!

Implacable is too passive of a skill when compared to Bladestorm. The latter inflicts significant damage to multiple enemy units that can be finished off the next turn.
Preferred 5th Ability: Untouchable
The immunity from enemy fire lasts only once and does not protect against multiple attacks.
Deep Cover requires the Ranger to be behind an object for such ability to activate and difficult to find cover when performing melee attacks!
Overview of Personal Combat Sims
Speed fulfills the Ranger's top priority faster in finding high-value enemy targets.
Essential Product Type
Priority Ranking
Description of Combat Efficiency and Effectiveness
Speed
A
Critical for combat maneuvering for better firing angles, especially useful in the late game!
Perception
B
Synergizes with high DPS classes like Sniper and Grenadier that use any multishot skills with aim penalties!
Conditioning
C
Best for early-mid game when soldiers have lower HP due to rank and lacking armor upgrades.
Agility
D
Only increases chance of grazed enemy damage instead of evading attacks altogether.
Focus
F - Do Not Use
Every soldier will naturally max Will to 100 when being promoted to Colonel.
Perception is best for offensive Rangers only and pairs well with Rapid Fire to negate aim penalties.

Note: PCS that score C or below should be kept in storage and sold off later during "very interested" events.
Best Armor: Wraith Suit
The only perfect armor that provides the most mobility and dodge!
She can also walk through any obstacles on top of grappling to any nearby rooftop!
Protecting You From Yourself: Enemy VIP
The preferred mobility PCS and the Wraith Suit grants the most movement per turn.

The time to extract enemy VIPs will be halved when carrying them to the LZ.
Preferred Ultimate Ability: Rapid Fire
Rapid Fire provides double attack with aim penalty and more effective with rifle armament.
The double-attack is more lethal with the Repeater weapon upgrade for late-stage enemies.

Reaper exposes the Ranger to be in the middle of enemy formations and most likely be in a vulnerable coverless position when the turn is over.
Overview of Weapon Upgrades
The Ranger can wait for the DPS classes to have their first picks until a surplus exists.
Essential Product Type
Priority Ranking
Description of Combat Efficiency and Effectiveness
Repeater
S
Pairs well with multishot abilities and has a chance to instantly kill any enemy, regardless of HP!
Expanded Magazine
A
A must for all classes as it is needed for large ammo-consuming abilities!
Hair Trigger
B
Has a chance to do double attack with another free turn!
Scope
C
Very useful in early-mid game when Perception PCS does not exist.
Laser Sight
C
Alternative to the Repeater when unavailable and an increased chance to amplify critical damage.
Stock
D
Only useful in early game with starting group of soldiers to eliminate low HP high-cover enemies.
Auto-Loader
F - Do Not Use
Limited by finite uses and does not improve battle performance much.
The top three categories are most preferred and is possible to equip all of them, if lucky with the Armed to Teeth continental bonus.

Note: Weapon upgrades that score C or below should be kept in storage and sold off later during "very interested" events.
Preferred Drink: Catniptail
Drinking makes the Ranger stronger and more ferocious during combat!

I tend to run Blademaster rangers instead of Recon types. What can I say, I like hewing aliens a whole lot. But this Recon Ranger with positioning focus can be a really useful build. It's worth trying out.
