Hello fellow bosses! This guide is meant to be a general game tutorial and will be updated to reflect new patches and mechanics. It is meant to integrate the amount of basic gameplay and information the in-game tutorial provides.
For faster scrolling please use the sections/chapters on the right.

Disclaimer: this guide spans across many different versions, it may have slightly different UI due to that. This can be spotted easily by checking my in-game level in screenshots.
★★★★★ SINGLEPLAYER (Roguelite) ★★★★★
Singleplayer or Campaign is the mode where you can play as Travis Baker and take control of Rockay City!
You start off with a few turfs, some money, a few team members and a little cash. These can all change depending on Casey's level but we'll get into that later.
You will be presented with something along the lines of this:

The objective is to get rid of all the other bosses and (optional) to conquer each turf in the city.
★★★ Plotline selector ★★★
Plot selectors evolve around a big heist, with pre-planning and Team Members' personal story missions that are guaranteed to trigger whenever you play them.

A list follows:
  • Ranger – The Hidden Vault
  • Wiz – The Hidden Vault
  • Cracker – Money Train
  • Chase – Dragon Dogs
  • Jupiter – Import Export
    • Jupiter is replaced by the enhanced version, Roidiac Jupiter, toward the end of her storyline, even without owning the DLC.

This is how the menu looks like:

It is also progressive, meaning you will need to play the first ones to unlock the next and so on:
├ TEAM Members
Team members are the ones that will help you during heists/jobs/missions, they can be hired and managed via the "TEAM" tab at the top of your screen.

From here we can see I own Baker (always), Mr. X, Forehand, Ropes and Vexer right from the start. The quality and quantity of the team members you will start off with can be influenced by the entourage, we will talk about it later.

I could hire more team members by selecting them at the bottom of this screen: Meto, Top Hat and Stomper are available.
├ OFFICE
The Office is where you can make administrative decisions basically. Here you can access the Stash, Loans and Assets menus. Let's look at them in detail.
│├ Stash
This menu allows you to sell and manage your stash, in order to get more cash from whatever expensive items you currently own.

As you can see, price for items is not always the same and is somewhat volatile. As a general recommendation, you can and should sell something if you see it goes for about 30%+ market value.
However, some preplanning missions you can pay off with stash items so remember that.
│├ Loans
If you're in a very very bad spot, you can take a loan. Do remember they have absolutely terrible interests so do this only if you're desperate. Selling your stash, even with bad market rates, is still better than this.

│└ Assets
Assets are just items that help you increase your singleplayer level. They're rather expensive and you get to keep them permanently even after you complete/fail a campaign run.
Only buy these when you have a decent amount of money.
Picture as example, but there are many assets you can buy, the price range is incredibly big and I choose not to elaborate further, I will let you discover them! Also, Casey's perks can help with reducing asset costs...

├ ENTOURAGE and levels
The Entourage menu is where you examine your entourage characters' levels and looks something like this:

You can level up these characters (for singleplayer entourage only) after each campaign run, you will earn one point for each level. At the bottom left you can see your singleplayer level (in the screenshot it's 113), the one at the top right is your multiplayer level (132), as you get multiplayer experience from playing singleplayer too.
Unless you are buying assets, singleplayer experience is awarded at the *end* of a campaign run, regardless of being successful or not.
└ POLICE: investigation, detectives, heat
Investigation
Your objective is to take over the city from other bosses, but that's also before Norris catches you!
There is an investigation meter on the map, you will see it in the top right.
Investigation can be reduced by bribing police officers (when offered as a Goal).

This is extremely important because if the investigation reaches 100%, then (big spoilers here, click only if you don't care) Norris will raid your club and the campaign will end, whether you manage to escape and win the final battle or you die trying. I won't post screenshots about this, to still keep it a bit of a secret and not to have a big black wall in the guide.

This is an example of a mission that reduces the investigation (available in Goals menu).

Detectives
This icon with a grey turf will indicate the turf has been cleared out by a detective (they will forcefully remove anyone's troops from it and become neutral once he leaves, or gets killed). You can kill a detective by going loud while a detective has occupied a turf! The closer you are on the map to him, the quicker he will show up alongside his fellow cops. Detectives are *very* tanky, and they have health bars to distinguish them.
Killing a detective reduces your investigation by 6% as of U11.2.

Heat
Heat badges are also very important!
If you are on one badge, the police response will be rather slow and weak, but the higher you go, the harsher it gets! 5 heat badges mean instant 5 badges the moment you go loud in any heist, which means multiple dozers, shields and shock troopers running towards you with bad intentions!
Heat level also affects turf wars in this way:
  • Heat 1 – No captain
  • Heat 2 – Captain (actually shows up in the middle of the enemy slaughter, not on the end)
  • Heat 3 – Gang reinforcements event (more enemies to kill), +Captain
  • Heat 4 – Two captains
  • Heat 5 – Two captains, SWAT ambush event
Heat level increases with basically every illegal activity you do, so turf wars or heists/missions, anything will increase your heat level.
Killing civilians increases heat by half a badge, it used to increase investigation but it was changed and it now affects heat, instead.
Police has another side-effect with increased heat... Random SWAT ambushes, they're part of the Random Events, explained later on in the guide.
There is, however, a very simple way to reset the heat badges! Simply end the day and it will reset to 1 heat badge.
-----
★★★ TURF WARS ★★★
Turf wars are battles for turfs and can have a number of variations...
You can attack or defend turfs, depending on whatever strategy you may want to go with - you can be very aggressive or focus on heists more, it's completely up to you.
├ ARMY
Army represents how many soldiers you have recruited and are available to fight.
The army guys do NOT help you in heists and are only usable during turf wars.

Let's go back to the first image:

You will be able to recruit new soldiers everyday by hitting this icon.

And then:

Army members are used up during the day but they are available again on the next day unless they die. Meaning in this case I have 32 soldiers, if I capture empty turfs I will use 10 of them each time, but they will "regenerate" the next day. If, instead, I attack someone and lose some of them, the ones I lost will not come back the next day.
For example, I attack a turf, I lose 2 soldiers and win. The next day I would have 30 soldiers instead of 32 because those 2 died.
We will talk about turf wars in the next section.
├ Attack, defense, icons

The 3 icons above indicate a turf you can attack and how difficult it will generally be, starting from easiest to hardest.

Go for these ASAP! These are free turfs, meaning none of the other bosses managed to get their hands on them, and whoever gets to them first, he will get them basically for free. It will still cost some amount of money and 10 soldiers but it's a guaranteed win and something you should always be going for early on in your campaign.
Note: this guide is not for speedrunning.

This one shows that if you capture this turf you are taking the final one for that particular boss, meaning you will effectively eliminate him/her from your current campaign run, and you will be able to earn a significant amount of money/stash by stealing theirs.

These are all related to weakening or neutralizing a boss' final turf and they generally have very high preplanning costs.

Defense defense! Other bosses may very well attack you! You're not the only one that can attack, quite often other bosses will attack your turfs and you must defend them or you will automatically lose them if you go to the next day without defending them.
Once again the icon starts from the easiest to hardest.
In defense you get to play as Touchdown, who is by far the strongest character you will use in the game and has a deliberately overpowered LMG that is totally able to wipe out hordes of enemies in seconds.

Note: Cagnali has an hardcore attack mechanic if you start her storyline, allowing her to attack turfs regardless of having one close to yours. Basically she can attack you from the other side of the map - this is intended.

├ Basic strategy
  1. Go for the empty turfs, unless you're speedrunning and you *really* know what you're doing, this is the most basic and easiest technique to expand your territory.
  2. If you follow the first rule, soon enough you should get "Strengthen army |" objective from Touchdown in your goals, which is one of the most important things you should do as soon as possible.
  3. Attack same (or lower) tier opponents! If you go for Cagnali right at the start, there's a big chance you will get wiped out, lose a lot of resources, soldiers and even more importantly, you will turn her hostile towards you, meaning she will effectively attack your turfs, potentially causing an early failure! I recommend to attack Hielo at the start, if you are a beginner, because his troops are the weakest.
  4. Defend your turfs! Don't let other bosses take them from you for free, but be mindful of how many troops you send to defend them, the lower it is, the less you're paying in army/costs...
  5. Hire new soldiers everyday! You need those soldiers. Don't go broke to do it, but you do need them, I mean it.
  6. Keep an eye on your heat level! If you have 5 badges, turf wars will be harder too, with potential SWAT ambushes!

Just from the free turfs, I can already get better soldiers for the next day in my Goals tab, look:

Absolutely go for that mission, it will show up on the map like a yellow mission for a warehouse. Do this mission as soon as possible.

After that is completed, call Touchdown from the Goals menu and give him the coke:

Alternatively you can give him money but if you're reading this I know you can tell that 100k is much more than 30k, so coke is the best option.

Now for actual turf war stuff.
For example, in the screenshot below, you can see 2 of my turfs are under attack!

In the north area, Santo Springs is being attacked by Hielo (yellow/blue flashing color), and Bigsurf is being attacked by Dollar Dragon (green/blue flashing color)!
In this section I will defend against Dollar Dragon!

In this case you will see me taking zero soldiers along with Touchdown so I will be alone defending. I do not recommend to do this if you're a new player, but I've been playing long enough to pull this off.

Now that has been taken care of, you will see that Bigsurf is now mine and blue again.

An attack is shown in the advanced strategy section, please refer to that one for an attack example, I don't want to post it twice.
└ Advanced strategy
Everyone wants to be a big shot, I get it, so here are some advanced strategy tips and tricks you can use:
  1. The best defense is to attack. If you capture a turf that is attacking yours, you will automatically win the defense without even having to play it. In my case, Milton Rey is attacking me, but I don't have another route to attack that turf. However, there's a different way and I shall explain it in the next point.
  2. Cutoff rule. If you cutoff a Boss' turf from the rest of their turfs, you will automatically capture it. This basically means, I can attack Fair Fields, which will give me Fair Fields, but it will also cut Milton Rey off, meaning I will get that one too. Since Milton Rey is the one that is attacking my turf in the first place, I will automatically win the defense as well in ONE fight. Screenshots will be posted below. You can cutoff a maximum of one turf.
  3. Blocking expansion. This is related to taking empty turfs and more meant for speedrunning but taking some key turfs to block off another boss is a viable strategy if you want to be very aggressive or to simply expand quicker.
  4. Always minimum soldiers and defense on zero. This is ideal, but not always viable, it's strongly related to skill level but it's what you're going towards. You will start by defending with like 10 dudes, then you will go to 5 and keep getting better until eventually you will not need anyone other than our beloved Touchdown.

Let's examine that attack on Hielo that includes basically everything I mentioned here!

Attack successful! However, 4 soldiers died in the attack (car exploded in the middle of them -_-):

You will see that single attack won Fair Fields from the attack itself, but also won Milton Rey by cutting it off, and automatically won the defense because of it.

★★★ MISSIONS / HEISTS ★★★
There are many, many kind of heists and missions you can do in Crime Boss.
These are some of the icons you will be able to click to start one of them:

The icon background follows the same rules as the turf war ones. The more rhombuses, the harder it gets.
├ Team setup
Once you click on a heist/mission/job you will be able to set your team up! This is very important, because sending improperly equipped bots can be a death sentence!

This above is an example of how I did my "Cocaine for guns" mission right at the start of the campaign. You can go alone with Baker but it's genuinely not recommended, even the game reminds you about Baker:

Remember this - if Baker dies, the whole campaign run is over and you restart from day 1.

Some team members will be better than others,

if we check here, we can see that Mr. X is one of Epic characters and is very strong. Baker is legendary because it's Baker, Forehand is also pretty good, but the grey dudes are nowhere near as good. Plus they may not have good equipment/guns with them.

Characters can be further promoted (for this specific campaign run) after being active in missions and doing stuff. This will cost you quite a bit, I don't generally recommend to promote anyone but Baker but maybe you really like some characters. Anyway, the game will alert you at the top of the screen as you can see on the left.

Then in the Team tab we will see something like this, and the upgrades I got:

You cannot use the same character over and over everyday for multiple missions (other than Baker, that can be used twice per day). The moment you send a character to a mission, they will be "Resting" until you go to next day, and it will look like this:
├ Inventory and buying guns

In Team tab, you can click in the bottom left area on any of the guns that are currently equipped in order to show your inventory for either primary, secondary or throwable (according to whatever you clicked in the bottom left, in my screenshot I hit the primary rifle).

You can scroll down to check whatever you have available, you can grab guns from other characters or something not in use, such as the SMG that I'm highlighting. If something is already being used by another character it will tell you "Take weapon from X character", as it does in the first screenshot.

At the bottom left you can hit this button to buy guns for your team members. You can then swap them around. Which will take you to the following screenshot.

From there you can then purchase whatever gun you want!

For an absolutely immensely comprehensive list of guns with detailed information for each and every single one, including ratings and everything you can think of - please refer to the fan website[rockay.fans], made by rtk.z!
I will not elaborate further on guns because everything is over there already, with much better formatting than Steam.
├ Special missions

Some missions are special and only trigger under certain conditions.
For example this one has a chance to trigger if one of your team members dies in battle and you can potentially rescue him/her if you successfully complete it.

This one is generally a peaceful trade where you have to buy something as a pre-planning for a bigger heist.

Remember when I said other bosses can and will attack you? They also attack your warehouses, and it's *extremely* important to defend them as you lose a LOT of money if you don't.
Pro tip here - these missions are for defense and you earn nothing out of them! You should kinda use the team members that have the highest team cuts, so they get the highest team cut of... Zero ;)
├ Story missions

Story missions will look a bit different from the other ones as they may have yellow color and circular shape rather than have rhombus background. Check these out!

These are all big heists in a way or another, there are several more of these but I don't want to post too many icons.
Some of the pre-planning requirements will also feature these kind of icons, for example you need to hire helicopter pilots for some heists and it will look something like this ➞
├ Team members' story missions
Some team members are quite special, for example:
You may get some spoilers, but if you want to read their stories before playing them or how to get them, go ahead! There are very detailed descriptions about the missions and everything.

Some characters have to go through a personal story to be unlocked. This will be the corresponding icon and may span across multiple days to complete. You will be able to use those characters as team members between their individual missions.

Do mind that before being able to access their stories you must unlock them as "Team Member" from Multiplayer rewards first, which you can get by playing in campaign anyway (if you dislike playing with others, that is).
├ Loud or stealth?
Icons are good and all but is there a way to tell whether a mission will be loud or stealth right at the start?
Yes there is! Check this out.

This is loud from the start!

And this is stealth!

You will see the little skull icon meaning loud and the eye with an X meaning stealth! Yes, it's that easy!
Do note, however, that there is a good amount of common sense involved, not all heists feature this tiny icon to clarify whether it will be loud or stealth. What I mean by common sense is that if you want to, let's say assault an armored truck, I'm not too sure you need an icon to tell you it will be loud :D
There is a special armored truck version that can be stealthed, and it has a different mission description.
├ Gathering intel
In Singleplayer exclusively, you can sometimes send some soldiers to gather Intel about the mission and that will both decrease the risk and increase the rewards.
The soldiers you are sending will only be used up for the day and will return the next one so if I had 35/35 soldiers and I sent 7 to gather intel, I would end up on 28/35, next day 35/35.

The menu (if available), looks like this:

Use the slider to send as many as you can:

The loot will increase by a substantial amount (but I forgot to take a screenshot of that, so you'll have to trust me for once).
├ General loud tips
Don't get shot, lol.
Okay seriously:
  • FOCUS ON THE OBJECTIVE. I can't stress this enough, the objective is all you're there for, and this game gets progressively harder the longer you stay around as the police response becomes harsher and harsher. You cannot win the gun fight against the police, they respawn forever and you don't, so really do focus on the objective.
  • If you want to go loud, make sure your team is properly equipped for it, if you are using Swiss and other crappy guns like that they will get downed and cause a cascading negative effect of people getting downed, revives and downs until a potential full team wipe.
  • Whatever you do, Baker has priority. If everything goes bad, make absolutely sure Baker gets out alive no matter what, or your campaign is OVER. You can recover from bad finances, you can't fix Baker dying.
  • Keep an eye on your teammates! If you see their health bars go down, figure out why and whether you can help them! Don't just let them die and say "Duh, AI sucks, game bad", because that's a skill issue if your teammates die constantly. Your teammates support you but you also have to support them!
  • Similarly, keep an eye on your own health bar! If you get shot too many times, find some cover and regenerate your health! Make sure to watch out for cops chasing you, they won't like you doing that, especially on higher difficulties.
  • AI teammates will occasionally drop the second bag when they're under heavy fire to be able to fight with their primary guns. Keep that in mind, as you may lose bags along the way.
  • Team orders can be very useful, especially ordering them to deliver loot or to follow you to specific areas.
  • I know I said that the longer you sit around the harsher the police response becomes BUT, I can assure you it is often not wise to push out at the beginning of an assault. Try to clear the area a bit or find an alternative path (Import Export comes to mind, it's super important there).
  • Watch your fire! Don't kill civilians or you will instantly fail "Clean execution", meaning you will only get a maximum of 2 stars out of 3, plus it will increase your police investigation. For more informations about this, please refer to the "3 stars system" a few chapters down below.
  • Related to the above, don't kill SWAT guys that are about to throw a grenade. The grenade will have no effect on civs if they fully throw it, but if you kill them before they throw it, it drops to the ground and kills a civ it's on you. Before you ask, I don't think that's fair either but it is what it is.
Robot explosions do not kill civilians (you can thank me for that, you're welcome).
  • Speed that drill up! At least it doesn't randomly jam at scripted intervals *cough*. But it can be stopped by cops, so protect it, too.
├ General stealth tips
Don't get spotted, lol.
Yeah okay that's the same meme as the loud one, I'm tired, gimme a break and laugh or I slap you with a pizza slice (I'm Italian):
  • Especially when you're new, remember this game has no time constraints (except for Import Export and window entrance in Dragon Dogs but they're very specific), so take your time. Look around, you don't start as a speedrunner nor you have to become one.
  • At least one silenced gun will make your life so much easier in stealth, or at least make you feel safer. You can take out guards or cameras at range with them. Sure, it will cost you a strike, but that's better than going loud, right?
Related to equipment again, some characters are much more stealth-oriented than others. The ones with "Ghost" perk (harder to detect), for example, will perform better.
  • You have 2 strikes and the third one makes you go loud, remember that. If you're in a really bad spot just get rid of that camera and subdue the guard/cop. Better to use a strike than to mess everything up.
  • Destroying a camera will give you a strike. Don't abuse this or you will soon turn your mission into loud... If you temporarily disable a camera with the camera jammer equipment, it won't give you a strike. If you destroy a camera after you disabled it with a jammer, you will not get a strike, but guards will spot it being destroyed.
  • Extremely important: killing thugs/gangsters does NOT give you a strike, only killing guards or cops does. Meaning that all of those missions that are like "Steal X's loot" you can effectively take all gangsters out quietly. It's not easy but... You know. Plus, body bags can be moved quicker than having to order gangsters to follow you. One important exception to this rule is Cagnali's Fortress, specifically. All thugs count as guards there for some reason.
  • Some equipments/throwables are definitely more stealth-oriented, such as the mighty brick (which can be used to lure guards or to even kill at range if you're good at throwing), sensor grenade (this can spot and outline everything), throwing knife (huh... Do I have to explain?), shuriken (incredibly strong, recharges extremely quickly and hits super hard).
  • Move body bags and zip tied people out of the way!
  • Sliding is very good to approach someone from behind.
  • Don't be suspicious inside banks: running/crouching/jumping will cause guards to become suspicious. Let's be real, would you do those things in a bank? :D
  • Speaking of suspicious... If you break out boxes or rob display cases or whatever else, guards will take notice and straight up call the Police! That's right, it's a triple strike because they will keep spotting them!
  • Noise (bricks) and drills can lure guards towards a certain location. This can be used to your advantage.
  • There are differences for the difficulty. Currently on extreme guards have 35% extra view range and you get spotted much quicker. Of course, Extreme presents you with more guards. On Normal, you can kill several guards quickly and you will only get one strike, on Extreme the strike is immediate. There are other small things but these are the most important ones.
  • "Start heist" button in next section.
├ Trespassing or Restricted Area?
While stealthing there are different areas you will enter into and they can have various effects. For instance, let's say we're robbing a bank, there's quite a difference between being in one of the employees' offices and being inside the vault! The first one will be trespassing, whereas the vault will be a restricted area.
The game does tell you on screen "Entering restricted area" and such, whenever you are doing it, and it stays in the top right of the screen, check these:

They have substantially different effects on guards. If you're trespassing, the guard will politely ask you to leave and simply report in a strike, you can either walk away if you got busted and you can't subdue him quietly, or you can take your chance and avoid the strike by subduing him immediately.
If you get caught in a restricted area the guards won't ask you anything, they will pull out their guns and straight up shoot you while sounding the alarm!
├ Start heist button
In Singleplayer but also in Multiplayer (for host), you will have a "Start heist" pop up in certain areas (mainly the area of interest).

This is in a bank, for example. And it can also be on the side when the "usual location" is occupied by something else such as picking a bag up.

This button tells all bots to subdue all civilians and actually start the heist. They will then smash display cases, boxes and loot automatically after you trigger it.
Until then, they will do stuff only if you specifically order them.

If this wasn't clear enough, the information above only applies for stealth.
├ Loot informations
Get all dat cash! But there isn't just cash to secure in Rockay City!
...But cash isn't everything, there are MANY kinds of loot that you can stuff into those bags, and each one takes up a different amount of space.

These, for example, are small inside the bag:

These are bigger already, with the bracelet and stuff being small still:

Bigger loot (right vase in left screenshot):

These ones will instantly trigger a full bag and same goes for the vase on the left in the screenshot above:

Technically, you can be smart about what you are bagging... You could bag several smaller things and then stuff one of the last 2 big items into that bag, to have virtually almost 2 bags worth of loot into that single one... But don't tell the devs I told you about this ;)

One very important thing to know about loot is that whatever is not delivered to the van, will NOT be earned. Same goes for loot that doesn't fill a bag, a bot (or yourself) must go near the van for it to be added up. This was changed later on and now the loot that is being carried by bots will be counted as delivered even if you escape without letting them to physically drop it into the van. There's also a sound cue whenever loot is added, to make it easier to understand for players.
├ Random events
In Crime Boss, many unforeseen situations and events can happen. The game will promptly inform you about them and they can be tied to a number of things.
For instance, SWAT ambush has a higher chance to trigger if you have high investigation and heat.
This is how it looks like:

A list of possible random events would be: Party at the mall, Police coffee, enemy gang ambush, Police raid, SWAT ambush, Chico/Sicario/Scudo/Rider reinforcements.
├ 3 stars system
All of the missions (except individual characters' stories) work with a 3 stars system:
  • First star: main objective goal, whichever it is.
  • Clean execution: this star can be achieved by BOTH not killing any civilian AND not having any team members die during the mission. Revives are ok, but if a team member runs out of revives and gets downed again, he/she will be fully dead and that will fail you clean execution.
Clean execution will also fail if a civilian gets killed by SWAT/gangsters accidentally. If you ask me whether this is fair, it is not, don't ask :)
Grenades, explosions, cars are quite often the biggest offenders for this. Luckily, robots don't kill civilians when they explode. (You can thank me for this bit :D)
  • Special objective. This can be just about anything, and it's explained in text. Do what it says and you will get this star. In the screenshots below it says it right there "Team of 3 or fewer members", so I brought only Baker and Runaway, achieving it automatically at the end of the mission.

Now you may be thinking this is all fine and such but WHY would I bother going for 3 stars at all?
  1. star: -30% loot, -50% exp
  2. stars: -15% loot, -30% exp
  3. stars: full exp and loot values.
3 stars has an additional bonus of no fencing expenses in singleplayer, that you can see from "Detailed stats" after finishing a mission:

As you can see, getting a 3 stars rating can make an HUGE difference on your income and progress.
├ Bot commands
You can press TAB to display a whole menu of commands. From here you can switch to a specific bot or order them to do things.

This adds to what the in-game tutorial already gets you to do, which covers ordering bots to do things and whatnot.
An interesting note is you can also cancel an order by just pressing TAB and then ordering everyone to standby (there are other methods but this is the quickest I'd say), which can be useful if you accidentally order a bot to subdue a guard instead of simply marking it, since you can order a submission by just marking the same guard twice in a quick succession.
└ Difficulties
The game currently has 3 difficulties: Normal, Hard and Extreme.

They are explained rather well by the game itself so I will just post the same descriptions.

I will add there are more little tweaks here and there, for example in stealth if we compare Normal and Extreme, you will get spotted a lot faster on Extreme and enemies will have 35% extra view range.
In Campaign some costs are also tweaked and are higher on Extreme.
Just a couple of examples, I don't want to turn this into a fully technical explanation.

★★★★★ MULTIPLAYER ★★★★★
Multiplayer in Crime Boss is currently crossplay between Epic Games and Steam, not quite available for Playstation and Xbox but maybe one day, who knows.

Anyways, multiplayer has basically the same unlock system as singleplayer, where you pick one out of 3 choices. There are some differences for how it works, though.
  • You don't lose items in multiplayer, ever. You can lose guns and team members in singleplayer instead.
  • There are Team members and boss appearances, they are 2 separate things!
  • Credits work in a much different way in multiplayer. Generally speaking, rewards are lower and once you buy an item, you own it forever.
├ How to play with friends
Playing with friends is super easy since there is total crossplay across Steam, Epic Games, Xbox and Playstation!
At the top right of the screen you will find a section that looks like this:

You can invite people through steam with the Invite a friend button (or via Epic with Shift + F3), or using the lobby code, which in my case is VJ3YFM:

Similarly, if you want to JOIN someone via lobby code, you can press "Join using an invite code"

which will pop up a menu that looks like this:

Where you just put the lobby code and you will be able to join the lobby, regardless of it being friends-only or public! Codes work across all platforms.
├ Moderation
│├ Kicking
We talked about how to play with friends, now let's talk about how not to play with people you don't want to play with! Crime Boss has a kick system that works both from the lobby and from in-game.

While you are in the lobby you can just click on someone's character and the kick menu will pop up:

You can also kick by opening the lobby top right panel, both from the lobby and during an heist:

From there you can kick whoever you want, in this case only one player was present so he was the only one I could select.
│├ Blocking
What if a player wants to keep trolling or tries to harass you? You can also completely block them, making them unable to access your lobbies ever again. It works very similarly to the kick system.

You will be able to see the players you blocked (and eventually unblock them) from your game options:

With the unblock button being in the bottom right corner:
│└ Reporting
You can also choose to report people doing nasty things via the "Report" button:

Simply compile it however you want and send it!
P.S.: yes, the username is displayed wrong currently, I'll get the devs to fix it.
├ Missions / Heists
This is the one you want to click if you want to HOST games!
It will present you with a selection of every possible multiplayer heist/job, like so:

You can then click whichever one you want to play, select difficulty and privacy (public or invite-only), and you're set!
├ Shuffle
Shuffle is a series of 3, 4 or 5 random heists (the last one tends to be a longer one) that allows you to get more rewards from it. Useful if you're not really sure what you want to play or can't be bothered to sift through to select.
More info if you press "Detailed info" in game.

├ Sessions
Sessions tab will show you all the open lobbies that you can join (it won't show private or full ones), and looks something like this:

You can use the filters on each column to help you find whatever lobby you are looking for. Just click on one and you will be able to select your character before joining one that is in progress or alternatively you will simply join the lobby if the heist has not started yet.
├ Boss customization
After entering multiplayer you will have a "Boss" button at the top and from there you can customize how your boss looks, plus you can change all of his/her weapons, equipments and perks.
Once you click on the button you will be presented with this:

(The background may change according to your multiplayer level).

You can then hit "Customize" at the bottom right and it will pull up quite an huge customization menu that looks something like this:

From here you can click on any of the buttons, which will take you to the relative menu, for example the primary guns will look something like this:

And you can also buy weapons/perks from here! For example I haven't purchased all perks yet, so I will see one available for purchase if I scroll down, check this out:

It works exactly the same for all of them: primary guns, secondary ones, perks, melee (they used to be considered primary weapons but now they have their own dedicated slots) and even boss appearances (that you can unlock with multiplayer levels). Perks, however, no longer need to be unlocked and they can now be bought and upgraded directly (see Perks chapter).

Here you can see you can buy the ones you don't own yet:

...But I will keep the one named after me. Thank you devs ♥

Mind you, having your boss look like a team member does NOT grant him/her the same weapons/perks, it only affects the looks, please refer to "Team members" for more information on the matter.
├ Boss slots
The current version allows for up to 6 different boss slots, so you can have for example multiple loud or stealth builds with your customized boss. However, the boss slots must be purchased, they look something like this:

Or like this if you are not in a lobby:

They work exactly as you would expect, you can freely customize them after you purchase them and their cost increases very rapidly.

1st slot: Free
2nd slot: 500k
3rd slot: 5 Millions
4th slot: 25 Millions
5th slot: 50 Millions
6th slot: 100 Millions

The "final" slots are meant to be kind of endgame content, they are really unnecessary unless you have everything already, that's why they cost so much.
├ Perks
Since U11 perks can be bought directly.

You can then hit the button in the top right to upgrade them individually (it's not very cheap but you never have to do this again):

And here's the result:

You will find more informations about perks in this dedicated guide: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3509409843
├ Gun customization
As of now, gun customization is limited to owning the variant you want to use, but it may be changed in the future.
You can still customize the skin by hitting "Change weapon skin":

And then you will be able to choose from whatever you can buy or already own:

Skins are individual for each weapon type, meaning you will have to buy them for each gun type, so let's say you buy a skin for a Chopper rifle, it should work for all of its variants.
└ Team Members
Team members and "Boss" are very different concepts.
Your boss is fully customizable, you can change his guns, perks and looks. You can play as him/her, too.
Team members you can't change anything about! They are available to use both as characters for you (instead of your boss) or as bot teammates.
You will be able to examine your team members, how many you own and their weapons/perks from the "Team" tab.

And from there you can click on "Inspect", which will display more detailed informations about that character, I am checking Stinger in this case:
★★★ URBAN LEGENDS ★★★
Urban Legends are batches of 3 fixed missions with a background story and cutscenes! You will be able to pick your characters from a pre-defined set, you will not be able to use your multiplayer boss characters nor the team members you own - only the ones that are pre-selected for the batch you selected.

As you can see, they also have a score system that is the same as regular multiplayer, with 3 stars per mission.
Urban Legends missions are often slightly different from the "regular" multiplayer versions, but they can still be played in co-op with up to 3 other players.
If you click on "Detailed info" at the bottom right, it will provide you with more information about the series you currently have highlighted.
★★★ ROCKAY RUMBLE (Horde mode) ★★★
Welcome to Rockay Rumble!

Think of Left 4 Dead and it's a similar concept. 15 waves of increasingly harder zombies to beat and upgrades that last throughout the current match.
The objective is to clear wave 15 and survive with at least one player.

One super important thing to mention is that your boss perks DO apply in Rumble, so you really want to be using loud-oriented perks such as Sturdy, Vigor, Medic, Marksman etc etc... Don't bring anything to increase your stealth capabilities because it will not help you in any way.
│┌ General mechanics
(Work In Progress)
This mode is very unique, as you get a moneybag drop for each kill, that you have to grab.

There are 3 types of "money", starting from the basic one to the best:
  • Regular dollar sign
  • Gold bar
  • Red diamond

It also features a few important modifiers, that apply to everyone in the team:
  • Some enemies (starting from wave 2 onwards) will have a "X2" icon above them, these are extremely important as they temporarily DOUBLE the amount of money the enemies will drop after you kill them. It is best to take them out first if you see them, to maximise their effect for as long as possible.

  • Other enemies will have a syringe indicator, these will give you a temporary berserk boost.
│├ Waves 1-4, 6-9, 11-14
These waves are kind of the "getting ready" phase for waves 5, 10 and 15. Especially at the start you should focus on trying to make use of the X2 enemies as much as possible, to get as much money as you can and have a good setup for the boss waves.

They're overall filled with a bunch of enemies and they're heavily timed and scripted in behaviour (please refer to the "Values" section if you're a mad scientist or simply interested into more details), but the common thing is they don't have bosses, they can only feature enemies that have X2 or temporary Berserk as reward.
  • 1 - 4: are generally very very easy, especially the first wave is very easy. Second wave you already have to look for the X2 enemies to double your earnings.
  • 6 - 9: we're kinda being serious here, especially around 8-9, because you don't have so many upgrades and enemies will be considerably faster than at the start.
  • 11 - 14: fairly difficult waves, you may very well have to shoot while retreating consistently, unless you really know what you're doing.
│├ Boss waves (5, 10, 15)
These waves are no longer about surviving for X amount of time, they're about killing the highlighted enemies! Other "goons" will spawn and keep on spawning for a while but will stop after some time.
It can be beneficial to sort of run away from the bosses to kill the lesser enemies and postpone the actual fight with the bosses but be careful because the marked enemies have seriously harsh damage scaling and can very well double-tap you even at range sometimes!

These bosses include: SWAT Scouts[rockay.fans], SWAT Heavies[rockay.fans], several detectives and Minigunners[rockay.fans] (that are the worst as they absolutely SPAM you with shells and with the damage scaling they can down you in very few shots on Extreme).

*Equipment recharge rate is part of equipment upgrade.
**Stun duration and explosive damage received are part of damage resistance.
Every equipment upgrade also increases your recharge rate by 100% up to a maximum of 600% (ignoring toolkit) which vastly cuts down on your RPG/Clusters cooldown timer!
Weapon Tiers 2-10 also add 10% equipment damage on top of the existing one for up to a potentially lethal 600% damage when both are maxed out.
It's worth noting that picking up an health upgrade FULLY heals you to your new max health so perhaps you could try leaving the truck open and sneak an upgrade during the wave if you're bold!
└└ Gameplay example
This is really an example of how to play, this is a solo run on Extreme, focusing on upgrading the character rather than going for kills so it's only 512 kills. I know it's very possible to beat, I'm just trying to show how to play here :D

Massive updating is in progress due to several out-of-date bits and pieces.
Horde mode being added as well.

@Endy only on the lower difficulties, on the highest difficulty nasara speaks instantly and you will instantly get the strike.
Flavio93Zena  [author] 2 Apr @ 6:21am
@That Honda Civic thank you, that must have been changed at some point and I don't really change my skins too often to notice. Fixed!
That Honda Civic 2 Apr @ 4:05am
Correction on the gun skins; it's not actually per weapon it's per weapon type. if i buy a skin for lets say the chopper i will have that skin for all other variants of the chopper
Flavio93Zena  [author] 1 Apr @ 1:31pm
It is not mentioned on purpose as it's not reliable and doesn't work on max difficulty but I might add it with the difficulty disclaimer. I'm very aware :)
Endy 1 Apr @ 9:27am
Killing guards / cameras in very quick succession can only count as a single offense. It seems to be around a 3 second window / when Narasa stops speaking. I was capable of killing 3 close guards and 2 cameras and it only counted as as single strike.
Capitalism! 5 Mar @ 7:22am
one thing I noticed is guards can see damaged window panels on the gold cup heist. its better to be more careful where you throw bricks in that building
Lewdbox 25 Jan @ 6:02pm
Killing 2 Guards quickly can count as 1 single Offense by Nasara. Screenshot Proof exists of this.
NotEvenAFakeName 19 Jan @ 4:33am
Sometimes there is no icon for loud or stealth, its just a guessing game on those maps.
