Operation:

*This locomotive is situated in a "long hood forward" configuration, meaning the cab is set toward the back of the engine in normal operation*

Startup:

> Head into the cab and find the switch that says 'Electrical panel', which is in front of the conductors seat on the other side of the control stand, and flip all the breakers. (Here also you can monitor the performance of the prime mover with the small dials above the breakers)
> Next go out the door beside the breaker box and head down the hood till you find a flip switch on the deck that says "latch", flip it and press the button inside that says "Engine Primer" wait till the light turns green, then you can close the door and head back into the cab.
> Lastly flip the "Engine On" switch on the forward bulkhead and hold the button "Starter" till smoke comes out of the exhaust. Your engine is now on!

Brakes:

This locomotive is equipped with WABSIM as well as MU control for multiple unit operations. to use first go to the short hood end (behind the cab) and disengage the Handbrake.
*Do note if you do this before turning the engine on, the locomotive will creep slowly forward, if you don't like this or aren't accustomed to automatic transmissions, leave the handbrake on till you are ready to move

With the handbrake disengaged, move back into the cab and turn the "Cut-In" key as well as the lead/trail switch depending on whether this locomotive is leading or trailing the leading locomotive.

Now you can manipulate the brakes to your delight.

Multiple Unit control (MU)

For this, you need to set the Mu controller (behind the engineer's seat on the rear bulkhead), so decide a channel for data to transmit on, and flip the associated switches depending on whether you are in the lead locomotive or the controlled one. Next sit in the engineers seat and move the radial segment display to your left till it faces backward, and glows red. This correlates to controlled for the controlled locomotives, move it as the label describes to match the conditions for the lead locomotive. Don't worry about the electrical anchors by the couplers, the radio signal contains all the data for the locomotives and connecting these will mess up the signals.

History:

MB 4703 similar to her sister 4756, was originally part of the DSIR's early foray into dieselization. First numbered 108, she was part of the same order as 4756, but arrived several months later due to mistaken identity, storms, and customs disputes. Eventually the locomotive made it to the DSIR and worked alongside her sisters, although at some point in the 60's 108 would receive snow plows that she would retain for her entire career. When the DSIR broke up in 1971, 108 was first sold to the Spycakes Terminal Railroad, where she would be used for shunting and switcher service. In 1975 her owners traded her for a EMD SW1500 from the Meier Belt, and 108 was renumbered to 4703. She would continue to work on the MB till 2017 saw the purge of all old equipment from the roster and she was promptly withdrawn and scrapped.

Thanks to the folks at EOS for the pipe plow
