Description
If you are looking for a small panorama map,
or a small challenge map,
-there are many awesome maps in the workshop.

but if you want to know if you can settle hell in form of
4x4 groundspace...
WELCOME, you are in the right place
___________________________________________________________
story:
when my beavers found out about this, they started a rebellion
and I had to move into a bunker...again
___________________________________________________________

the objective here is not to complete a tech tree
but to find out how far you can climb it
...and to find out if this map-size is survivable at all
so...the main objective is to support a stable population

drought and badtide will outright kill you in some really tiny maps,
this one is no exception (deactivate)
a small starting population is also a good idea,
but starvation can also help

Folktails have the benefit of not needing food for reproduction,
but I think Ironteeth are the better bet here.

with Ironteeth you can plan population and even stop pop-growth
pause breeding pots only at high progress bar
so a stable population here could be as low as 1 with job rotation.
and even 0 with an active breeding pot.
you can keep a breeding pot paused as long as you want if it
doesnt run out of resources and has enough to finish work
+buildings you need like farm are smaller
+no housing needed

Folktails should have a stable population around 4 beavers to
replace their numbers. maybe a semi-stable population of 3
with the risk of 2 dying off
+no berries needed / more space for growing

wet socks and some water is getting in

the map / Tipps

°natural overhangs and stairs for additional area
(can be generally useful for smaller maps)
(you may find a better spacing solution in the editor for this)

°enough trees for essential buildings and more
(a single tree and empty spot is technically a natural growth farm)
(you dont need a tree if you have built all that you want to anyway)

°adult berry bushes spaced between trees
(cut trees for chance of natural growth)
(replace what you dont need with food farm crops if possible)

°a place for drinking water
(didnt know you can place watersources on overhangs, is this new?)

°base had to be put on top and I could not build past it

°despite not being in the spirit of challenge in the options you can also set food and water need for beavers
(but also recycling buildings percent costs)

my last warning:
this is a UNIQUE map and can entertain micromanagers for a short time _fun?/ worth trying?_You decide

and now,
have to grab scuba gear as beavers are flooding my bunker

FUN FACT
There is a Family of microscopic wasps that are smaller than some Cells
To even get to this size, they eject the Cell-core of their brain cells
The cell core creates protein for the cell and is ejected.
The cell cant create what it needs to survive anymore, but
with a life shorter than a week it just needs to barely function for that long.

Same as the trees here. After the last building is made you dont need a tree

I have seen a 4x4 map on mod.io before and wanted to create the first survivable one
with the new overhangs.
Currently you can build the basics you need to survive, and it took a few attempts.
But the map had to be built with the buildings in mind

You for sure are right about 5X5, but its even worse as I could not make planks and power on the same level. I thought about using folktail wheel and something like storage to transmit power vertically. Overall space is rare so you have to consider what building you want to make space for.
Even planks did not make the cut
5X5 also cant build every building, but you could even make it up to metal.

This type of map can also never have sustainable metal as mine needs too much space
5X5 also allows you to build past starting hut and gives more freedom with stairs.
+ aditional space as you can build above starting hut.

But I could make a similar argument for 6X6 or to include bigger buildings like Wonder

how exactly are you supposed to use any of the 4x2 buildings if the map is 4x4 ?

this probably needs to be at least 5x5.

If you have any Idea that helps to beat this map-size - this is the place!
