Baltimare Evacuation [Mission]

Description
Be it today or tomorrow, Baltimare will fall, and the rest of Southern Equestria with it…

Baltimare is a prominent port city on the Eastern coast of Southern Equestria. It has served as a major hub for military and civilian maritime services throughout its history, and its many factories aided Equestria as the Great War dragged on. However, Equestria’s defense began to crumble as a second front was opened in Southern Equestria. The entrenched lines on the northern front faltered and collapsed when divisions already on the main lines were forced to pull out to aid the southern front forces.

Despite help from her Allies, Equestria could no longer mount an effective defense as equipment shortages and heavy losses wore away at the war-weary nation, eventually resulting in the encirclement and loss of Canterlot. It soon became clear Southern Equestria could fall completely as well, and so plans were drawn to stage a major evacuation of combat capable forces using Baltimare’s numerous deep-water ports and dockyards, so that they may reinforce the rapidly retreating Northern lines. Changeling Armor rushed to cut the city off from the remaining units on the South Eastern lines, trapping half of Equestria’s forces in the region, thwarting a grand evacuation and leaving those outside the pocket with little room to escape.

It is now December of 1016. The forces stuck in Baltimare are dug in, with some resupply coming in with Hippogriffian escort by sea, turning the Charm City into a last-ditch fortress with a large civilian presence still in the city. Families who had previously hid in shelters during several bombing raids were now flooding the dockyards to board any ship they could get aboard. Many more stayed to aid the city’s defense through its local militia, knowing full well this fight could only end one way. The stage was set for one of the last major battles in Southern Equestria to take place, between the battered Equestrians and the reinvigorated Changelings, with no shortage of blood to fill the city’s streets.

Objective

Changeling Forces
have encircled Baltimare, providing them with numerous advantages to use in Wagon’s Point, including consistent armored support, air superiority, and high-quality equipment, all available for use in the city’s siege. However, they are limited in how many troops they can throw at the line, and must be extremely careful how they traverse the urban environment. If they sustain too many casualties, they will be forced to retreat, letting the defenders escape far more easily. Their primary objective is to secure the Wagon’s Point port to evaporate any chance of an evacuation by the defenders. The fewer that make it onto the boats headed to the Northern Front, the better the odds are that the Changelings will achieve a swift victory over Equestria.

They must make their way through the ruined streets of the city, fighting for every building and every room. While armor has its uses, its advantages are greatly diminished in such a ravaged environment. Infantry must closely guard these powerful assets to make the best use of them in the struggle for the port. Once out of the residential district, they must take the port and leave no combatant standing. Any soldier captured in Baltimare will have no love left for the Changeling soldiers to feed on, and thus they serve no purpose to the hive.

Equestrian and Hippogriffian Forces
are trapped in Baltimare, but are being supplied by the port they occupy, with naval supremacy in the area firmly in Hippogriffia’s control. They will have access to naval artillery, carrier fighter craft, and heavily entrenched positions within the city. They have a thin supply of decent weapons and ammunition however, so the defenders will inevitably have to scavenge for better equipment to better hold the line. A large reserve of ponies and hippogriffs sit in the bay as they wait for extraction, if need be these reserves can be called up to bolster the defense and land ashore. Only those able to fight will go.

The defenders must hold the line for as long as it takes. No effort can be spared to ensure the evacuation is complete. They must use every available resource to stop the Changeling tide from wiping out their forces in retreat. They must make use of the environment to flank the bugs and strike at their weakest points should they have to pull back past the initial defensive line. The longer they can delay the capture of Wagon’s Point, the more Equestria’s reserve of soldiers to defend the Manehatten Line will grow, as will the Northern front’s ability to stop the Hegemony’s advance dead in their tracks. There will be no surrender to the enemy!

Or, there's mod missions that have a HUGE list of secondary Required mods that demand to be downloaded and often have just no relation at all to the main thing with the mission and thus just won't be bothered with.

And then there's this one very passionate mission riiiight here~

Looking forward to more, even if it'll take some time to get running for everything to be juuuust right~ :goldstack:

Aye, it sets the bar high. I've played a number of other EaW maps that have had things not-quite-right with them, whether it's sheer distance between spawning and objectives with solid minutes of running if you fail to spawn in a vehicle, hyper close proximity between spawning and objectives leading to constant wipes, excessive squad sizes that also get coupled with tanks with an "escort" element that only serve to get in the way and die, mission assets that get plopped down on the map with massive gaps between building foundations and the ground making for floating buildings, MASSIVE unit numbers for default mission settings, to just failing to make squads properly fit in a cohesive manner (regular infantry crammed into tanks with "leftovers", fighters/bombers manned by regular infantry and non-parachuted """leftovers"""), to squads plainly not having proper supplies like bandages or ammo boxes for MG units...

Finally got around to playing the mission, and this is probably the most well made mission for EaW. The map itself is pretty good, possibly on par with the base game's urban map designs. Balance wise I've been able to beat the map as both defender and attacker (singleplayer) on the default settings, with a deathless defense by spawning as a sharpshooter team and getting lucky in spawning in a tower. Attacker I struggled a bit further, smoke and debris made finding targets as a sniper a bit difficult, and I got a little lost in an accidental flanking action that vaguely helped my team advance, wound up stealing a Sure Mane tank after respawning in a fresh squad and skitter-jank crawling over log walls that the tank was trapped behind and did a much more solid job in pushing the advance right to the final point.

Map's solid, mission's fun, can only wonder at what we can look forward to for more maps and missions down the line~
