[Unlisted] Focused Map - Fate of Iberia

Description

What:
Reduces the playable area to Iberia, Southern France, and the Northwestern coast of Africa. The intent is to focus on the features of the Fate of Iberia DLC.

Why:
I'd like to play without the bloat of tens of thousands of characters in far flung realms with which I'll never interact. Late game lag reduction is a big bonus. The smaller map mods in the workshop are still too broad or went a little too narrow for tastes, so I made my own.

Notable Changes:
  • Most regions have been made impassable. The titles and characters from those regions have been removed.
  • Only the Iberian bookmarks are available when starting a new game. Relevant characters from other bookmarks have been migrated to the Iberian ones.
  • For the 867 start, Charles II 'the Bald,' comes south to reign in Aquitaine. For the 1066 start, Philippe I of France, will do the same.
  • The Karling decision to 'Restore Carolingian Borders' now only requires regions in Southern France and Iberia. This ties in very well if you choose to play an 'Iberian Foothold' campaign.
  • The kingdom of France/West Francia is now a titular title since the king's historical seat of power is not within the playable area.
  • Eudes Robertine is given his uncle's holdings in Bourbon in order to stand even a tiny chance of being a proper rival to Haestein.
  • The 'Unite Africa' decision now only requires the playable regions within North Africa.
  • Removed some decisions that were showing up but didn't work with the map, such as the 'Secure the Mediterranean' decision.

Known Bugs and Incompatibilities:
  • Not compatible with anything that changes 00_landed_titles.txt, provinces.png, and possibly title histories.

Known Compatibilities:

TLDR; It's not compatible with the latest version of the game so it would be a waste of people's time if it still showed up in regular searches.

-----

After the release of Roads of Power, all of my map mods would cause a crash. I basically had to redo them all from scratch, which was a big headache. I added Iberia to the my Northern Lords map and de-listed this one to lessen the workload.

I chose to de-list rather hide or outright delete the mod because some people are still subscribed to it or have favourited it. They can still play the mod if they roll the game back to a version before RoP.

I suspect that the Asia expansion DLC will cause my other maps to crash again, at which point they will be de-listed as well. Until I have a lot of spare time on my hands again to make them work with the new Asia-included map.

Yours is still the best one. I hope to see you make more small maps of a single area.

#3 on the list is also optional from my experience.

1. The most important part is provinces.png in map_data. You need to paint over the baronies you wish to remove in color of the impassible terrain.
2. Removing titles from 00_landed_titles in common/landed_titles.
3. Removing the affected holy sites in common/religion.

Optional:
4. Removing affected historical characters in history/characters and history/titles.
5. Removing affected bookmarks.

That's the rough outline. Feel free to ask if you have further questions.

Thank you very much for wanting to support my work, Bishiba. It's very encouraging. I'll see about getting this mod up to date next weekend.

In regard to making a similar mod of your own;

The modding discord is a good resource with a lot of helpful modders to answer questions.

The wiki has an extensive guide. But for doing something like this, you only need to be concerned with the 'Province map' and 'Landed Titles' sections.

Starmender recently posted a short guide too. He's the author of the most popular of these kinds of reduced maps. I'll repost it here.

Hi, I added you on steam. I was wondering if you'd allow me to support this mod, and if not, if you could maybe direct me a little on how to make a similar mod. Didn't respond to the steam invite (Not surprised, tends to be spamming scammers)

This is now unlisted. I might resurrect it in the future if I get more spare time on my hands.

I can only imagine the amount of work needed for this. But it's such a good thing to have that it's a real shame you can't keep it up. Being able to truly focus in on a region would be really nice.

Thank you very much. This update taught me how much maintenance a mod could require. I'm hoping to bring the amount of work to a level that an unskilled modder, like myself, can comfortably manage in his spare time.

And I'm removing the mod because I don't want to add to the list of dead mods in the workshop.
