WHH-GT-85-ETP

The high density apartments at Ernst Thälmann Park in Berlin are part the last "prestige" plattenbau development of the DDR. The "bauform" (building type) is referred to as WHH-GT-84-85-ETP because they were designed and constructed in 1984-1985, only 4 years before the fall of the wall in 1989. Examples of this distinctive special panel building type can be found 16 times in former East Berlin.

Included in this pack are three versions of the building:

1. WHH-GT-85-ETP-12 with 12 residential floors, 45.8m tall, 4.9k tris, 210 tri LOD
2. WHH-GT-85-ETP-15 with 15 residential floors, 54.2m tall, 5.6k tris, 146 tri LOD
3. WHH-GT-85-ETP-18 with 18 residential floors, 62.6m tall, 6.3k tris, 274 tri LOD

The ETP-12 and ETP-15 can be combined in-game to create the building found at Ernst Thälmann Park, as seen in the screenshots.

My work on this project began in 2020 and was originally intended for CSL2. Creating the ETP buildings was a nice way to learn Substance Painter and develop a blender-to-SP workflow. Recently I decided to bake those hi-poly, 4k PBR models down for CS1. This too was a challenge. I am now incorporating blender geometry nodes to randomize floor instances. This creates variety in the windows diffuse texture and night-time illumination pattern. Each of the three ETP buildings has unique window patterns on all sides of the building, and all LODs are matched, modeled, and baked down by hand. The RICO-ready assets share a 2k texture set (diffuse, alpha, specular, normal, color, illumination) to save memory via LSM. There are slight variations in the default colormask colors on the panels, which can be controlled via RePaint.

Here is an ETP starter build (xml file)[www.allbuilds.org] to Move-It "Restore" these assets into their exact locations on my Berlin map.
